PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Wallace Owen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Noriaki Kasai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Wallace Owen has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Wallace Owen seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Wallace Owen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Noriaki Kasai!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Fujiwara and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kasai throws a body shot but no joy.

Kasai clinches up with Owen and pushes him back against the cage.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Owen tries to pull guard but Kasai forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Owen blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Owen is looking for a takedown.
Owen is trying to stall.

Owen gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Kasai regains guard.
Kasai wants to stand and escape but Owen is having none of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Owen is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Kasai is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Owen trying to control the position from guard on top but Kasai is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kasai has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Owen has passed into side control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Owen throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Owen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kasai has escaped the position, nice work there.
Kasai is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Owen off and has taken his back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kasai has the hooks in. Owen is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Owen is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Kasai.
Kasai punishes Owen with strikes from the back mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kasai slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Will Kasai go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Owen is in bad spot here.
The referee is taking a good look at Owen as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Kasai!
Kasai just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Kasai is trying to stick to Owen's back but Owen is turning into Kasai. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Kasai's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Owen.

Kasai wants to stand and escape but Owen is having none of it.
Kasai keeping moving, preventing Owen from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Noriaki Kasai will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Owen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kasai swivels and escapes.
Kasai throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Owen's waist but Owen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kasai off to one side.

Kasai gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Owen to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Kasai is trying to control the position but Owen postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kasai really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Owen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kasai preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Kasai wants to get back to full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kasai trying to control but Owen postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Kasai clinches with his opponent.
Kasai prevents a takedown attempt there.
Owen slows down the pace here.
Kasai jumps guard but Owen stands there with Kasai around his waist. Kasai gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Kasai cracks Owen with a nice body shot.

Kasai is looking to break free of the clinch but Owen has double underhooks.

Kasai ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Kasai no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Kasai tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kasai wants to get back to his feet but Owen is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Owen tries to stand but Kasai is controlling from the bottom.
Wallace Owen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kasai is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Kasai is working an open guard so Owen takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kasai throws a nice head kick!
Kasai is breathing heavily.
Kasai throws a series of punches but Owen moves out of range.

Owen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kasai to the mat! Kasai manages to get full guard.
Owen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Owen working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kasai looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Owen not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Owen trying to control but Kasai is working from the bottom.

Kasai tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Owen paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Kasai tries to clinch up but Owen circles away and keeps his distance.

Owen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kasai looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kasai is pushing Owen's head away, looking to escape. Owen manages to hold on to the position though.
Owen creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Kasai sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Owen decides to stand back up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Owen stuffs the takedown.
Owen dives in and grabs Kasai's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kasai pushes down on Owen's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wallace Owen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nice sprawl there from Owen as Kasai shoots in.

Kasai tries to keep at a distance but Owen has taken the fight into the clinch.

Kasai gets a trip takedown into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kasai wants to take a breather but Owen is having none of it.
Owen throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Kasai tries to pass the half guard into mount. Owen knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Owen is refusing to be controlled, as Kasai sits in half guard.

Owen pushes Kasai off and gets back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kasai throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Owen shoots in for a takedown but Kasai shows good takedown defense.

Owen gets a takedown into half guard.
Owen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kasai's head.
Kasai is looking for a sweep. Owen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Owen tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Owen is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Owen blocks the strikes from Kasai.
Kasai avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Owen.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Owen is looking for a kimura but Kasai is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Owen to get the leverage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Kasai shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Owen pinned against the cage. Owen gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kasai lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

And that's the end of the fight!
Wallace Owen showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Owen has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
