PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Astico (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seth Saggo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlos Astico looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Carlos Astico!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Seth Saggo!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Robert Douchet and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Astico misses with a head kick.
Astico bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Astico throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Astico lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Saggo circles away quickly and effectively.
Astico is looking to clinch but Saggo is avoiding it.

Astico closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Astico lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Astico trying to control the position from guard on top but Saggo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Astico tries to free his leg and advance position but Saggo is retaining full guard.
Astico slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Astico accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Astico trying to control but Saggo is working from the bottom.
Astico is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Saggo keeping moving, preventing Astico from controlling successfully.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Astico is stalling in the full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Astico fails with a takedown attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Astico stuffs the takedown attempt from Saggo. Saggo gets slowly back to his feet.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Astico checks a leg kick.
Saggo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Astico tries to avoid it but Saggo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Astico to the ground. Astico escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Astico scores with a takedown into Saggo's guard.
Astico engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Astico trying to control the position from guard on top but Saggo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Astico is really struggling to control Saggo but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Astico works a leg free and moves into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Astico lands a nice short elbow.
Well, if Astico is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Saggo wants to get back to full guard.
Saggo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Astico. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Astico trying to mount his opponent but Saggo defends it.
Astico works his foot free and advances to mount.
Saggo is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Astico postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Saggo looks a forlorn figure.
We've been hearing that Astico has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Astico is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Saggo to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Saggo shrugs it off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Astico shoots in and drives through. Saggo sprawls well.

Astico throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Saggo was covering up waiting for the punch and Astico finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Astico's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Astico decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

and Astico counters with a nice low kick that buckles Saggo's knee momentarily.

Saggo tries to sprawl but Astico drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Saggo is staying active underneath Astico, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Astico thows a huge punch but Saggo dodges it nicely.
Saggo is not content to let Astico control the position.

Astico is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Astico is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Astico is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Saggo can do to turn this around?

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Carlos Astico is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Saggo shoots and misses
and Astico counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Saggo is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Saggo closes this distance looking for a takedown but Astico circles away.
Carlos Astico has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Seth Saggo.
Astico throws a head kick that Saggo semi-blocks.
Astico misses with a looping left.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

and Astico counters with a single leg into guard. Saggo didn't expect that.
Astico is looking to work some ground and pound but Saggo has wrist control.
Saggo keeping moving, preventing Astico from controlling successfully.
Astico is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Astico wants to control from the top but Saggo keeps moving.

Saggo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Saggo can't keep his opponent in guard - Astico advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Saggo trying to control from the bottom.
Astico is pressing down on Saggo's thigh, looking to free his foot. Saggo is holding on for now.
Still in half guard, Astico seems content to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Astico misses with a wild combination.
Saggo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Astico.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Astico throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Astico keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Astico darts in looking for a takedown but Saggo gets double underhooks and turns Astico into the cage.
Saggo goes for a takedown attempt but Astico pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Astico looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Saggo!
Saggo is not content to let Astico control the position.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Saggo is trying hard to land a takedown here. Astico sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Astico stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Astico wants it to stay on the feet.
Carlos Astico has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Seth Saggo.

Astico darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Astico takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Astico decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Astico shoots for a double leg takedown but Saggo sprawls well. He's pushed Astico's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Astico counters with a nice uppercut.
Saggo dives in for a single leg takedown but Astico sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Astico tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Astico is trying to break the clinch but Saggo is controlling him.
Astico gets underhooks to prevent Saggo's takedown attempt.

Astico wants to get back to striking at distance but Saggo won't allow it.
Saggo has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Astico after a bit of a struggle.
Astico stops a takedown attempt from Saggo.
Astico drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Astico is looking to break free of the clinch but Saggo has double underhooks.
Astico misses with a punch to the body.
Saggo goes for a takedown attempt but Astico pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Saggo swats away the attempt to clinch by Astico.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Saggo gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Astico counters by clinching up.
Astico tries to circle away but Saggo has him pinned against the cage.

Astico has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Saggo clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Saggo is trying to break free.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Astico has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Saggo.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Astico really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Saggo.

And that's the end of the fight!
Carlos Astico showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Astico has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
