PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Enrique Waters (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cristiano Carrao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Enrique Waters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cristiano Carrao!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carrao looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Carrao connects with a nice short shot to Waters's temple.
Carrao looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Waters trying to hold on to Carrao's head to control him but Carrao postures up.
Waters really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carrao not doing much here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Waters wants to get back to his feet.
Carrao seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Waters gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Carrao has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Waters is proving hard to escape from.

Carrao lands a couple of elbows.
Carrao is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Carrao thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Carrao is trying to work for a kimura but Waters is defending well.
Carrao seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Carrao winds up and cracks Waters with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Carrao wants to free his trapped foot but Waters is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Carrao shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Carrao showed some decent athleticism there.
Waters wants to control but Carrao is keeping busy.
Carrao content to control rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carrao stops Waters from getting back to his feet.

Carrao is looking to advance position but Waters won't allow it.

Carrao content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Carrao.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Carrao throws the kick towards the body but Waters avoids it.
Waters has his takedown stuffed

and Carrao counters with a nice double leg into side control. Waters won't be happy with that.

Carrao advances to mount.
Carrao tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Carrao moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Waters has worked his arm free - good work by Waters!
Carrao controls the position.

Carrao thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Cristiano Carrao has got the better of the ground game so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Carrao is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Carrao is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Waters has escaped the position, nice work there.
Carrao tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cristiano Carrao showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

and Carrao counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Carrao breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Waters shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Carrao counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carrao working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Waters being controlled here, momentarily.
Carrao has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Carrao scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Waters will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Carrao is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Carrao tries to free his leg and advance position but Waters is retaining full guard.
Carrao is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Carrao changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Waters looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Waters is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Carrao off and has taken his back!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Carrao trying to control the hands but Waters won't let him.
Carrao is in bad spot here.

Carrao is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Waters is not going to allow Carrao to sit and survive in this position.

Carrao tries to escape but Waters has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Carrao manages to reverse the position and now he's in Waters's guard. Nice work there by Carrao.

Carrao connects with a couple of short punches.
Carrao slips nicely into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Carrao in particular looking to stall.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Carrao working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Waters's thigh. Waters counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Cristiano Carrao comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Carrao has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
