Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kurt Wagner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jonas Valencia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kurt Wagner has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kurt Wagner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jonas Valencia!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Summer Carpenter and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valencia dives in for a single leg takedown but Wagner sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Wagner swings wildly with an uppercut but Valencia uses good head movement to avoid it.
Valencia is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Wagner is defending well.
Valencia has Wagner pressed against the cage, preventing Wagner from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.
Valencia has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wagner is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
I was talking to Wagner's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Kurt Wagner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jonas Valencia.
Wagner is pressed up against the cage. Valencia has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Wagner down to the mat. Wagner avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Wagner lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Valencia circles away quickly and effectively.

Wagner rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Valencia moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Valencia fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kurt Wagner is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Valencia throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Wagner was covering up waiting for the punch and Valencia finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Valencia is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Wagner doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Valencia.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Valencia is working for a kimura but Wagner is defending it quite comfortably.
Valencia wants to control but Wagner is keeping him busy.

Valencia is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Wagner is trying to get back to full guard.
Valencia is looking to advance position but Wagner won't allow it.

Valencia is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Valencia uses his free foot to push down on Wagner's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Wagner.

Valencia can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wagner is looking to escape.

That was a close round but I would say that Kurt Wagner will probably get the nod.

Valencia decides to stand back up. Valencia steps back and let's Wagner get back to his feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Valencia throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wagner's waist but Wagner gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Valencia off to one side.

Wagner lands with a nice combination. Valencia backs away looking to recover.
