The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chavarria tries to clinch up but Rodriguez circles away and keeps his distance.
Rodriguez stuffs the takedown attempt from Chavarria. Chavarria gets slowly back to his feet.

Chavarria gets caught napping as Rodriguez dives in and scores a takedown. Chavarria manages to retain guard.
Rodriguez throws a big right hand that misses.
Rodriguez is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rodriguez wants to pass the guard but Chavarria is keeping the position.

Chavarria wants to get back to his feet but Rodriguez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Rodriguez controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Chavarria displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Rodriguez throws out the jab.
Chavarria throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Rodriguez counters by moving into the clinch.
Rodriguez tries for a takedown but Chavarria manages to get underhooks.

Rodriguez gets control of Chavarria's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rodriguez will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Rodriguez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Rodriguez is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Chavarria frees his head nicely. Oh but Rodriguez has switched to an armbar! Chavarria is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
