Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Palmer Gerrard!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Matheus Silva and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gerrard shoots in and bounces Battista off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Battista is looking for a triangle but Gerrard pushes his legs off easily.
Battista throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Gerrard escapes and throws Battista's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Gerrard throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Battista manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Gerrard throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Battista wants to control but Gerrard is keeping busy.
Battista is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gerrard is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Gerrard takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Battista is looking for a sweep. Gerrard is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Gerrard content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Battista is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Gerrard is working for a kimura but Battista is defending it quite comfortably.
Gerrard tries to pass the half guard into mount. Battista knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Battista gets full guard.
Gerrard controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Gerrard avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Battista is looking for a triangle but Gerrard pushes his legs off easily.

Battista looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Battista has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Gerrard doesn't defend quickly enough and Battista has managed to lock this one up! Can Gerrard escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Battista on a fantastic submission victory.
