PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jan Angel Echano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pera Vikic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Echano comes to the ring accompanied by Every Thug Needs A Lady - Alkaline Trio. Pera Vikic is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jan Angel Echano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Pera Vikic!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Konstantin Menshow and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vikic scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Echano has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Vikic is working away from the top position though.
Echano is looking for a sweep. Vikic is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Vikic looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Vikic really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Echano. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Vikic is pressing down on Echano's thigh, looking to free his foot. Echano is holding on for now.
Vikic works his way into side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Echano tries to bench press Vikic off him but Vikic keeps the position.
Vikic remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Vikic advances nicely into full mount.

Echano might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Echano is trying to escape the mount.
Vikic controlling the pace for now.
It looks like Vikic might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Vikic is continuing to stall.
Vikic wants to get back to his feet but Echano is holding on tight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Echano wants to try and get back to his feet.
Echano tries to reverse the position but Vikic maintains control.
Vikic controlling the position easily from mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Vikic seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Echano is holding on tight.
Vikic is looking to stand but Vikic has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vikic goes for a double leg but Echano avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the ropes as Echano continues to drive forward.

Vikic must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Vikic sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Echano's guard.

Vikic is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Echano looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Echano wants to control but Vikic is keeping busy and won't allow it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jan Angel Echano has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pera Vikic.
Vikic tries for a takedown but Echano sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Vikic is breathing heavily.
Vikic misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Echano tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Vikic manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Echano is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Vikic throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Echano's waist but Echano gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Vikic off to one side.

and Echano counters by moving into the clinch.
Echano tries to land a knee to the head but Vikic blocks with his arms.

Echano misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Vikic.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Echano.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Vikic tries to score a body lock takedown but Echano shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Echano tries to land a knee to the head but Vikic blocks with his arms.
Vikic has Echano pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Echano manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Vikic on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Echano is trying to break the clinch but Vikic has him pressed against the ropes.
Vikic has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Echano is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Vikic is trying to trip Echano. He has hold of a leg but Echano is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Vikic persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Echano wants to sweep here but Vikic controlling him for the moment.
Vikic is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jan Angel Echano will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Vikic shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Echano sprawls well. Echano wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Vikic gets slowly back to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Echano throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Vikic throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Echano's waist but Echano gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Vikic off to one side.

Vikic shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Echano's guard.
Vikic takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Vikic controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Vikic wants to control from the top but Echano keeps moving.

Echano had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Vikic defends it easily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Vikic's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

No luck for Vikic with that takedown attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
Pera Vikic comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Vikic has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
