Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kobe Romeo Paris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maxwell Rubin!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Colin Fray and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paris dodges the punch combination from Rubin.
Rubin throws a leg kick but Paris sees it coming and checks it nicely.
A combination from Rubin does no damage.
Paris throws a leg kick

and Rubin counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Paris trying to hold on to Rubin's head to control him but Rubin postures up.
Paris wants to improve his position but Rubin is controlling well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rubin is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Paris has managed to free his arm - good work.

Paris is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rubin pulls his head out easily.

Rubin is keen to just control but Paris is a slippery customer.
Rubin blocks the strikes from Paris.
Rubin is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Rubin working over Paris with some ground and pound. Paris looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Rubin is looking for a kimura here.

Paris trying to get back to full guard but Rubin takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Paris sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Rubin is working for a submission of some sort.
Rubin working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Paris with the active half guard here but Rubin passes nicely into side control.
Paris is looking for a sweep.
Rubin lands a decent elbow from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rubin landing strikes.

Paris takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Paris is looking to regain half guard here but Rubin keeps moving and retains side control.
Rubin lands a nice forearm strike.
Paris gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Rubin prevents Paris from getting the reversal.
Paris is trying to reverse the position but instead Rubin has taken his back - oops!

Oooh a big shot gets through from Rubin. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
You can see the frustration on Paris's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Rubin working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Paris is really stuck here.
Paris breaks Rubin's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rubin is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Paris is aware though and is defending well.

Rubin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Paris gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Rubin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Paris accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maxwell Rubin dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Rubin thuds a left hand into Paris's body.
Paris slips a jab and a cross from Rubin.
Rubin shoots for a takedown but Paris saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Rubin takes a swing at Paris's ribcage but misses.
Rubin tries to work over Paris's front leg with a kick but Paris checks it.
A low kick from Rubin is predictable there
and Paris counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Rubin shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Paris's guard.

Paris seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Paris is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Rubin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Paris throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Paris working for a triangle but Rubin defends it easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Paris is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rubin defends well.
Paris lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Paris in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Rubin working for a triangle but Paris defends it easily.
Rubin wants to sweep but no luck.
Rubin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Paris trying to control but Rubin is working from the bottom.

Paris looking to sit in guard and control but Rubin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Paris is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rubin slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Paris is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Paris throws a strike from the bottom but Rubin passes into side control!

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Paris sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Paris tries to roll over but Rubin keeps him under control.

Maxwell Rubin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Rubin throws a body kick that misses.
Rubin has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Paris finds it's way round the side to connect with Rubin's head.
Paris swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Paris misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Rubin.

Rubin misses with an uppercut. Paris saw that one coming.

Rubin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Paris moves away.

Rubin lands with a good body shot.
Rubin throws out a powerful jab.

Paris gets a double leg takedown into Rubin's guard.
Rubin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Rubin is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Paris makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Paris accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Rubin looking for a sweep. Not yet Rubin, not yet.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rubin is on top in guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Paris has his feet on Rubin's thighs here. He's pushed Rubin off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Rubin screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
