PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Donald McTavish (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott has chosen White Rabbit as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Donald McTavish!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jason Scott!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McTavish looks to throw the jab but Scott is out of range.
Scott avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Scott has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as McTavish is landing a low percentage of strikes.
McTavish throws an off balance right hand

and Scott counters with a shoot takedown. McTavish fights it but they end up in guard.

McTavish has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Scott is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Scott tries to score a body lock takedown but McTavish shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
McTavish misses with a body punch.
McTavish is pressed up against the cage. Scott has hold of a leg and is looking to drag McTavish down to the mat. McTavish avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Scott shoots in but no luck this time.
Donald McTavish has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jason Scott.
McTavish misses with a looping left.

McTavish throws a poor cross that misses

and Scott counters with a nice double leg into side control. McTavish won't be happy with that.
Scott lands a few punches from side control.

McTavish's coaches at The Cave Fighting Team have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
McTavish is trying to get back to his feet.
Scott grinds an elbow into McTavish's temple.

Scott lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Scott is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
McTavish is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Scott asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Scott is trying to get an arm triangle but McTavish is defending well.

Scott creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

McTavish is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Scott has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Scott lands a nice forearm strike.
The strikes coming from Scott are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
McTavish tries to escape but Scott is in control.
Scott works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
McTavish prevents Scott from improving position.
Scott scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at McTavish to see if he's OK.

Scott misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
McTavish avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Scott.
Scott is trying to ground and pound but McTavish uses the momentary lack of control by Scott to regain half guard.
McTavish looks like he's trying to stand up.

Scott seems to be working for a kimura but McTavish defends the submission attempt.

McTavish tries to kick Scott off but Scott keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Scott is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
McTavish is looking to escape.
Scott throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McTavish avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Scott.
Scott looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Scott lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jason Scott dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


McTavish throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

and Scott counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Jason Scott has got the better of the ground game so far.
McTavish is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Scott is controlling him.
Scott advances to half guard.
McTavish is trying to stand up here but Scott is controlling him well.
Scott working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Scott scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Scott is looking to pass McTavish's guard but actually McTavish recovers to full guard.
Scott lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Scott has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Scott postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Scott trying to control but McTavish is working from the bottom.
Scott throws a strike but McTavish rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Scott is trying to keep McTavish in close.
McTavish stopping the sweep attempt from Scott.
McTavish is looking to stand up but Scott won't let him.

Scott is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

McTavish wants to get up but he can't break Scott's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Scott is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McTavish is aware though and is defending well.
Scott trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Scott has his foot on McTavish's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. McTavish works his way back into a safe position though.
Scott is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Scott looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
McTavish waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Scott.
Scott has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
McTavish jabs at Scott's body.
Donald McTavish seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scott takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

McTavish throws a looping overhand right but Scott ducks down to avoid it.
McTavish lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Nice cross by McTavish.
Scott shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts McTavish as he jumps to the side.
McTavish cracks Scott with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Scott falls to his knees and McTavish doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Donald McTavish!
An out of breath Donald McTavish thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
