PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Major Lazer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henry Ngo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Lazer might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Major Lazer - Pon De Floor. Henry Ngo has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Major Lazer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Henry Ngo!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ngo looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Ngo is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Lazer as he works his way to full guard.
Lazer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ngo is one step ahead there.
Ngo landing with the ground and pound.
Lazer trying to keep a closed guard but Ngo is proving a slippery customer.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lazer keeping moving, preventing Ngo from controlling successfully.
Ngo stays in close to Lazer's body and controls the position.

Ngo loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lazer lands a decent punch to the body there.
Lazer seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Lazer controls Ngo momentarily but Ngo frees himself.
Ngo makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Ngo would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Ngo working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Ngo chips away with some ground and pound.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Lazer wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lazer controls Ngo momentarily but Ngo frees himself.
Ngo wants to pass the guard but Lazer is keeping the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Lazer shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Ngo counters with a shoot takedown. Lazer fights it but they end up in guard.
Ngo is looking to work some ground and pound but Lazer has wrist control.
Ngo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Lazer wants to improve his position but Ngo is controlling well.

Lazer has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ngo is working away from the top position though.
Ngo throwing shots but Lazer is blocking nicely.
Lazer is looking to control Ngo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lazer avoid being mounted?

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ngo lands a nice short elbow.
Ngo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Lazer's head.
Ngo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lazer keeps working.
Lazer is trying to get back to full guard.
Lazer has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ngo is working away from the top position though.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lazer will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Ngo darts in looking for a takedown but Lazer gets double underhooks and turns Ngo into the cage.
Lazer drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ngo gets the underhooks and prevents it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Henry Ngo dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Lazer stuffs the takedown attempt from Ngo. Ngo gets slowly back to his feet.
Ngo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lazer tries to avoid it but Ngo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lazer to the ground. Lazer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Lazer stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lazer wants it to stay on the feet.
Major Lazer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Henry Ngo.

Lazer wants to control but Ngo postures up.
Lazer takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Ngo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Lazer misses with a takedown attempt - Ngo sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ngo holds on and takes a little breather.
Lazer slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Lazer lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Ngo is looking to reverse the position.

Ngo is trying to get back to half guard.
Ngo is still trying to improve position.
Ngo takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Henry Ngo has got the better of the ground game so far.

Lazer tries to get to full guard but Ngo has control of the leg.

Ngo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ngo goes for a double leg but Lazer avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Lazer continues to drive forward.

Ngo tries to pull guard but Lazer holds him up against the cage and eventually Ngo drops back down to his feet.

Ngo jumps guard and drags Lazer to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Henry Ngo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ngo has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
