The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vernon blocks a head kick by Growler.
Vernon throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Vernon just misses with a punch to the body.
Vernon throws a body punch but Growler moves out of range.
Vernon fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Growler looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Vernon catches Growler with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Vernon just misses with a punch to the body.
Vernon moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
It looks like Greg Growler has been cut.
Vernon avoids the body shot from Growler.

Vernon avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Vernon ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Growler moves away.
Patrick Vernon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
No joy there for Vernon, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Vernon throws a lazy right hand but Growler sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Growler shoots for a double leg takedown but Vernon sprawls well. He's pushed Growler's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Growler scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Growler winds up and cracks Vernon with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Growler looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Vernon with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Growler postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Vernon in real trouble here! The ref calls for Vernon to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!
