PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alf Magu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Klas Elfsberg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Alf Magu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Klas Elfsberg!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Magu keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Magu looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Elfsberg takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Elfsberg shoots in for a double leg but Magu sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Magu tries for a takedown but Elfsberg sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Elfsberg slaps away a takedown attempt from Magu, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alf Magu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Elfsberg throws a head kick that misses.
Elfsberg closes the distance and clinches up with Magu, looking for a takedown. Elfsberg pushes Magu against the cage but Magu circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Magu fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Elfsberg manages to avoid it.

Magu tries to score a power double leg takedown but Elfsberg sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Magu somewhat.
Magu dives in for a single leg takedown but Elfsberg sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Elfsberg lands a left hand that snaps the head of Magu backwards.
Elfsberg tries to circle away but Magu has him pinned against the cage.
Magu is stalling here.
Elfsberg wants to break free but Magu has control.
Elfsberg has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Magu is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Magu's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Magu throws a nice looking combination but Elfsberg bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Elfsberg bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Magu checks a low kick from Elfsberg.
Magu fails in his attempt to clinch.
Magu tries to close the distance and clinch but Elfsberg swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Elfsberg connects with a good right hand that stumbles Magu. Magu circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Magu closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Elfsberg did well to prevent Magu getting side control.
Elfsberg has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Magu is working away from the top position though.

Elfsberg has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Magu is on him like a limpet, forcing Elfsberg back against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Magu is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Magu is working for takedown but Elfsberg is calmly controlling the position for now.

Elfsberg is looking to break free of the clinch but Magu has double underhooks.
Elfsberg wants to break the clinch but can't.
Magu tries for a takedown but Elfsberg manages to get underhooks.
Magu tries to work over Elfsberg's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Magu stops a takedown attempt from Elfsberg.
Elfsberg misses with a hook to the ribs.
Elfsberg is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Elfsberg looking to hit a scissor sweep but Magu is one step ahead there.

Magu stands up from Elfsberg's guard - Magu perhaps looking for a knockout.
Magu wants to clinch up but Elfsberg keeps it at a distance.
Magu misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Elfsberg throws a sloppy head kick and Magu moves out of range easily.

and Magu counters with a head kick that drops Elfsberg to the mat! Elfsberg scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Alf Magu will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Magu is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Elfsberg seems to have recovered his senses.
Elfsberg is looking to clinch.
Elfsberg moves out of range of the leg kick from Magu.
Elfsberg shoots for a double leg takedown but Magu sprawls well. He's pushed Elfsberg's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Magu tries a head kick but it misses.
Elfsberg throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Magu stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Magu closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Elfsberg's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Magu lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Elfsberg can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Magu controls the pace.
Alf Magu overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Elfsberg escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Magu gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Magu controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Magu gets to his feet. Elfsberg looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Magu shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Magu was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Magu decides to stand up, so the ref orders Elfsberg to his feet.

Magu throws a head kick that misses.
Elfsberg looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Magu is fending him off so far but Elfsberg persists. Nope, Magu circles away and we're back to standing.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Elfsberg.
Alf Magu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Klas Elfsberg.
Magu shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Elfsberg sprawls well. Elfsberg wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Magu gets slowly back to his feet.

Magu connects with a leg kick. Elfsberg looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Magu tries to clinch but Elfsberg is having none of it.
Elfsberg goes for a double leg but Magu avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Magu continues to drive forward.
Elfsberg has had enough of the clinch but Magu keeps him there for the moment.

Elfsberg tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Magu just stands there and leans against the cage.
Elfsberg using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Magu has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Magu goes for a takedown attempt but Elfsberg pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Magu defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Elfsberg.
Elfsberg takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Elfsberg circles away from the clinch attempt.
Elfsberg looks for a takedown but Magu sprawls well.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Elfsberg enables Magu to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Elfsberg manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Elfsberg is on top in guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Magu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Elfsberg might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Magu haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Magu might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Magu pulls Elfsberg in close to his closed guard and prevents Elfsberg from doing any damage or advancing position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Magu is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Magu has his feet on Elfsberg's thighs here. He's pushed Elfsberg off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Elfsberg screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
