The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from Kavanaue misses its intended target.
Fortier definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Fortier dodges the punch combination from Kavanaue.
Fortier tries to close the distance and clinch but Kavanaue swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kavanaue lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Kavanaue throws a nice looking combination but Fortier bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Fortier fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kavanaue sprawls well initially but Fortier persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Fortier takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Jason Kavanaue decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
