Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dog Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kendall Maivia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kendall Maivia told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maivia has a takedown stuffed.

Hunter scores with a takedown into Maivia's guard.
Hunter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Maivia can't keep his opponent in guard - Hunter advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Maivia wants to control but Hunter is keeping busy.

Hunter is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Maivia is just riding it out for now. Hunter eventually gives up the hold.

Hunter seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Maivia has recovered full guard.
Hunter advances to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hunter wants to take Maivia's back but he can't do it this time.
Maivia is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Maivia keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Hunter swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Maivia is now in Hunter's guard. A big mistake from Hunter there, giving up the dominant position!
Maivia wants to stand but Hunter is controlling his posture from full guard.

Maivia avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Hunter has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Maivia is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hunter.

Maivia must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Hunter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Maivia gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hunter is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Maivia stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hunter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Maivia has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hunter is proving hard to escape from.
Maivia works over Hunter with some ground and pound from guard.

Hunter looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Maivia has picked Hunter up and slammed him! Hunter can't keep hold of the triangle and Maivia manages to pass to side control!

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Maivia tries for a takedown but Hunter circles away easily

and Hunter decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Maivia's guard.

Hunter stalling away here and it's allowed Maivia to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Hunter sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Maivia's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Maivia is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Hunter avoids the attempt from Maivia to control.

Maivia defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Hunter.

Hunter jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Maivia is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Maivia and Hunter has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hunter is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Maivia knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Hunter goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Maivia rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Hunter's guard! Nice work there by Maivia!
Maivia postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hunter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maivia is one step ahead there.
Dog Hunter overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hunter keeping moving, preventing Maivia from controlling successfully.
Maivia wanted to stand there but Hunter had control of the position.
Maivia wants to control from the top but Hunter keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hunter has his takedown stuffed
and Maivia counters with a big head kick but Hunter shrugs it off.

and Hunter counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Hunter is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Hunter has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Maivia defend it? Hunter steps over the head and cranks it - Maivia is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Hunter!
