PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ethan Rivera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jack Smith will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Ethan Rivera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jack Smith!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Chris Edwards and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith misses with a two punch combination.
Rivera could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Rivera gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Rivera throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Rivera is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Smith pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Smith looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Smith jumps guard and drags Rivera to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Smith is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Rivera is controlling him.
Smith is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Smith throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Rivera darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Rivera seems to be working for a kimura but Smith defends the submission attempt.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rivera. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rivera connects with a nice short shot to Smith's temple.

Rivera seems to be looking for submissions.
Rivera thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Smith's head.

Rivera is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Smith defends it well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Smith wants to try and get back to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Rivera is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Smith can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Smith manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Rivera is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Rivera drops back looking for a leg! Smith is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Smith manages to kick Rivera off! Rivera jumps back into Smith's guard.

Rivera is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ethan Rivera overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Smith is looking to stand up but Rivera isn't so interested in that idea.
Rivera is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Smith wants to stand up but Rivera is controlling him.
Smith can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Rivera controls the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Smith just misses with a punch to the body.
Smith swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Smith takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Rivera feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Smiths jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Smith drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Rivera misses with an uppercut.
Rivera is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Smith can do to turn this around?

Smith lands a left and a right that send Rivera crashing to the mat, dazed. Smith thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Smith swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Rivera counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Smith!

Smith is pushing Rivera's head away, looking to escape. Rivera manages to hold on to the position though.

Rivera slows the pace down.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rivera prevents Smith from escaping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ethan Rivera will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Smith scores with a jab.
Smith circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Rivera to the canvas! Rivera doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Smith keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:10 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jack Smith!
After the fight, Jack Smith was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
