Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Johnathon Harrington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jose Santos has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Johnathon Harrington!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Santos!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Paulo Santos and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Harrington swivels and escapes.
Santos shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Harrington defends it nicely.
Harrington throws a half hearted mid kick.
Harrington closes the distance and clinches up with Santos, looking for a takedown. Harrington pushes Santos against the cage but Santos circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Santos shoots in and drives through. Harrington sprawls well.
Johnathon Harrington has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Santos.
Santos buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Santos misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Harrington motions for Santos to come forward. Harrington throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Santos clinches.

Harrington breaks from the clinch.
Harrington really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Santos doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Harrington counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Harrington.

Santos is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Harrington to keep the fight standing.
Santos tries a knee to the head but Harrington blocks it.

Santos trying to stand up but can't free himself from Harrington's guard.
Harrington is adopting a defensive guard.
Harrington is looking to stand up but Santos isn't so interested in that idea.
Harrington is pulling down on Santos's head. It's preventing any offense from Santos, at least for the moment.

Harrington working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Santos doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Santos manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Harrington thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Harrington has his foot on Santos's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Santos works his way back into a safe position though.
Harrington pulls Santos in close to his closed guard and prevents Santos from doing any damage or advancing position.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Harrington gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Harrington breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Santos pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Nice takedown defense from Harrington. No joy for Santos on that attempt.

Harrington closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Santos's guard.

Harrington sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Santos's guard.

Harrington is trying to work for a kimura but Santos is defending well.
Harrington will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Santos wants to sweep but Harrington has passed to side control!

Harrington changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Santos tries to avoid it but Harrington manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Santos to the ground. Santos escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Santos is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Harrington gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Harrington tries to land knees in the clinch but Santos avoids the damage to the body.

Harrington jumps guard and drags Santos to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Jose Santos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Harrington shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Santos as he jumps to the side.
Santos goes for a double leg but Harrington avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Harrington continues to drive forward.

Santos breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Harrington dives in for a single leg takedown but Santos sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Santos pulls guard effortlessly.
Harrington throws a big right hand that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Harrington postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Santos controls Harrington momentarily but Harrington frees himself.
Harrington stands up over Santos, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Santos shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Harrington but Harrington pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Santos takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Harrington is trying to pull guard but Santos turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnathon Harrington. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Santos is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Harrington pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Harrington jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Santos walks away with a smile on his face. Harrington gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Santos shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Harrington sprawls well. Harrington wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Santos gets slowly back to his feet.

Santos ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Harrington pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Santos fails with the takedown

so Harrington counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Harrington wants to control from the top but Santos keeps moving.
Harrington lands a couple of elbows.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Santos looking for a sweep. Not yet Santos, not yet.
Harrington in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Harrington is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Santos controls Harrington momentarily but Harrington frees himself.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Johnathon Harrington.
I think Harrington has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
