Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
7 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Jeremy Pettis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jason Mewes!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Josh West and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mewes lands with a right hand.
Mewes throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Pettis scores with a nice right hand.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Mewes has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Mewes scores with a jab to the head.
Pettis uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mewes.
Pettis misses with a straight right.
Mewes wants to clinch.
Mewes dives in and grabs Pettis's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pettis pushes down on Mewes's head and hops out.
Mewes misses with a wild combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pettis scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Mewes walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Mewes swings widly with a right hand
and Pettis counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A big left from Pettis misses.
That's one minute gone in the round.
A jab from Mewes finds it's way through Pettis's defenses.
Mewes throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Mewes staying out of range there.
Pettis sizes up Mewes with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Pettis throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Mewes waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Pettis.
Mewes misses with a straight left.
Mewes looks to land a combination. Pettis sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Mewes fails with a takedown attempt.
Mewes throws a combination. Pettis tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Pettis is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mewes shoots in for a takedown. He's got it... He's hoisted his opponent over his head and is carrying him over to the other end of the mat. The crowd roars in approval and Mewes slams his opponent to the mat. OH, that is naaaaaasty! He's out! Mewes lands a punch to his unconscious victim for good measure before the ref has time to call the fight.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Slam). Jason Mewes!
Jason Mewes decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
