PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Trevor Rex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Tonic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tonic has chosen Baba O'Riley as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Trevor Rex!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jim Tonic!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, William Gold and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rex closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rex lands in his opponent's guard.
Tonic pulls Rex in close to prevent any damage.
Rex postures up in Tonic's guard and throws a big left but Tonic blocks it.
Rex might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Rex tries to free his leg and advance position but Tonic is retaining full guard.
Rex wanted to stand there but Tonic had control of the position.
Rex wants to control from the top but Tonic keeps moving.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Rex.
Tonic wants to get back to his feet.

Rex working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tonic tries to buck Rex off but Rex is having none of it.

Rex thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Rex is breathing heavily.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Tonic bucks up and tries to throw Rex off but instead Rex has got his back!

Rex is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Tonic is defending well though. Rex let's go of the attempt for now.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Rex's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Tonic really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rex. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Tonic looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

Tonic manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.
Tonic stuffs the takedown.

Rex shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Rex tries to free his leg and advance position but Tonic is retaining full guard.

Rex looking to sit in guard and control but Tonic gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Tonic won't allow Rex to sweep him here.

Tonic wants to control from the top but Rex keeps moving.

Tonic avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Tonic stopping the sweep attempt from Rex.
Tonic tries to free his leg and advance position but Rex is retaining full guard.

Trevor Rex dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Tonic looks to land a combination but Rex avoids it well.
Tonic keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Rex looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Tonic is fending him off so far but Rex persists. Nope, Tonic circles away and we're back to standing.

Rex wants to control but Tonic is keeping busy.
The fighters are battling for position here. Rex manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Rex is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Rex has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Tonic can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Rex can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Tonic controls the pace.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Rex has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Tonic is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Rex.

Tonic tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Tonic has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Rex is looking for a sweep.
Tonic advances to mount.

Rex is trying to stand up.
Tonic trying to control but Rex is having none of it.
Rex could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Tonic avoids the attempt from Rex to control.
Tonic is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Rex can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Rex tries to reverse the position but Tonic maintains control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Rex wants to control but Tonic is having none of it.

I really don't envy Rex right now.

Jim Tonic showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Tonic is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Rex has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Rex!

Rex stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Tonic swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rex has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Tonic is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Rex yanks on the arm and Tonic is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Rex.
