The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Donald Grub and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shifter clinches up against the cage.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Shifter has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Shifter tries for a takedown but Stapleton manages to get underhooks.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Stapleton checks a leg kick.
Shifter blocks a head kick by Stapleton.
Shifter gets cracked there but stands up to it.
The fighters circling - Stapleton throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Shifter uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Stapleton.
Shifter follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.

Shifter tries to clinch up but Stapleton circles away and keeps his distance.
Stapleton leaves Shifter with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Shifter takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Stapleton will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Shifter has closed the distance and engaged Stapleton in a clinch.

Stapleton is trying to break the clinch but Shifter has him pressed against the cage.
Stapleton's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've been told by Stapleton's head coaches at Diamond Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Stapleton throws a lazy head kick
enabling Shifter to counter with a crisp jab.

Stapleton looks to land a right hand but Shifter moved out of range.
Stapleton lands a big head kick that sends Shifter tumbling to the mat! Stapleton takes a step backwards and waves Shifter back to his feet - he wants the finish!
It looks like Shape Shifter has been cut.
Shifter slips under a jab from Stapleton.
Shifter walks straight into a right hand from Stapleton - that's dropped him! Stapleton jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Shifter from any more punishment! Shifter complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
