PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Cross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Red Nation kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Cross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jim Jones!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Wagner Zegers and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Cross throws out the jab.
Jones wants to clinch up but Cross keeps it at a distance.
Jim Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jones lands with a straight right. Cross didn't see that one coming.


It looks like Chris Cross has been cut.
Jones ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Cross moves away.
Jones ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cross paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Jones throws a nice looking combination but Cross bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Jones misses with an uppercut. Cross saw that one coming.
Jones is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

and Cross counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Jones makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Jones.
Jones utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Jones is trying to control the position but Cross postures up.

Jones bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cross's guard.

Cross has a closed guard, preventing Jones from standing up.
Cross definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Cross has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cross is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cross swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jones passes into half guard.

Jones throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Cross to regain full guard.
Cross keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Cross is trying to control the position but Jones postures up.

Cross keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Jones's head.

Cross might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That was a close round but I would say that Chris Cross will probably get the nod.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Jones throws a push kick but Cross slaps the foot to one side.

Jones is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Jones throws a right and a left that Cross avoids nicely.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jones takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Jones looks to score with a jab to the body but Cross is just out of range.
Cross waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Jones.
Cross avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Jones lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cross circles away quickly and effectively.

and Cross counters with a shoot takedown. Jones fights it but they end up in guard.
Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Cross stands up over Jones, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Cross advances to half guard.
Cross lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

And that's the end of the fight!
Chris Cross showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cross, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
