PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Lockhart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaiden Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Frank Lockhart has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Frank Lockhart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kaiden Smith!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Michael Johnstone and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lockhart scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!


It looks like Kaiden Smith has been cut.
Lockhart blocks a head kick by Smith.
Smith looks to throw a body kick
and Lockhart counters with a left and a right that stings Smith.
Smith shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Lockhart counters with a two punch combo.
Lockhart closes the distance and clinches up with Smith, looking for a takedown. Lockhart pushes Smith against the cage but Smith circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Smith closes the distance and pushes Lockhart back into the cage.
Lockhart letting Smith take a breather here.

Smith gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Lockhart trying to control but Smith postures up.
Smith trying to control from half guard but Lockhart is working away.

Smith stalling.
Smith is just content to waste time from the top position. Lockhart takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Smith stays in close to Lockhart's body and controls the position.
Let's hope that Smith has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Lockhart keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Lockhart throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Lockhart closes this distance looking for a takedown but Smith circles away.
Lockhart fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Lockhart looks to land a combination. Smith sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Smith tries for a takedown but Lockhart sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Lockhart shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Smith as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Lockhart. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lockhart gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Lockhart controls Smith momentarily but Smith frees himself.
Lockhart seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Smith wanted to stand there but Lockhart had control of the position.
Smith tries to free his leg and advance position but Lockhart is retaining full guard.
Lockhart keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully.
Smith controls from within his opponent's guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lockhart is striking but Smith is not phased and passes to half guard.
Lockhart gets full guard.
Lockhart has a closed guard, preventing Smith from standing up.

Lockhart working for a triangle but Smith defends it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Lockhart dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Kaiden Smith's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Smith is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Lockhart's half guard.
Lockhart is trying to control but can't.
Smith perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lockhart manages to get to full guard.
Lockhart is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Lockhart avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Smith controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Smith tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lockhart sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smith somewhat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Smith goes for a double leg but Lockhart avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Lockhart continues to drive forward.
Lockhart is looking to take this one to the mat.

Smith has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Lockhart is trying to keep an underhook but Smith manages to get the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lockhart trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Smith throwing strikes here but Lockhart is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Lockhart is looking to improve his position but Smith isn't that keen on the idea.
Lockhart bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Smith has a closed guard, preventing Lockhart from standing up.
Lockhart is looking to work some ground and pound but Smith has wrist control.

Smith trying to keep a closed guard but Lockhart is proving a slippery customer.
Lockhart wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.
Smith is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Lockhart wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Lockhart forces his way into half guard.

Lockhart is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Smith doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Lockhart.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Smith is trying to stand up here but Lockhart is controlling him well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kaiden Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Smith is defended easily by Lockhart.
Smith shoots and misses
and Lockhart counters with a left and a right that stings Smith.

Smith manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Lockhart on his heels. He'll look to pass Lockhart's guard now, I'm sure.

Lockhart is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Smith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Smith is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Smith is defending against the submission attempts here by Lockhart.
Lockhart is trying to control the action in half guard but Smith is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Lockhart looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smith can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Lockhart is working for a kimura but Smith is defending it quite comfortably.
Lockhart tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Lockhart wants to pass the guard but Smith is defending well.

Lockhart misses with a takedown attempt - Smith sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kaiden Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith dives in and grabs Lockhart's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lockhart pushes down on Smith's head and hops out.

Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lockhart. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lockhart wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.

Frank Lockhart showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Lockhart has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
