Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dick Russell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Rixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dick Russell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tom Rixon!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Russell instigates a clinch.
Russell tries to circle away but Rixon has him pinned against the cage.

Russell pulls guard effortlessly.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Russell tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Russell is working hard here to advance position.
Rixon showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Russell is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rixon drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rixon jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Rixon postures up in Russell's guard and throws a big left but Russell blocks it.

Rixon wants to control from the top but Russell keeps moving.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Russell tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Rixon has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Russell is trying to keep an underhook but Rixon manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Rixon is looking for a kimura but Russell is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rixon to get the leverage.

Russell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rixon on the ground.

Rixon is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Russell tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rixon manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Rixon closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Rixon lands in his opponent's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Russell is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Russell thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Russell postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Rixon to stand up.

Rixon throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Russell was covering up waiting for the punch and Rixon finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Russell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rixon controls Russell momentarily but Russell frees himself.
Russell keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Rixon's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dick Russell dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Russell doesn't manage to clinch there - Rixon circles away.

Russell drives through and clinches with Rixon against the cage.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Russell enables Rixon to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Russell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Russell wants to sweep but no luck.
Rixon wants to get up but he can't break Russell's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Russell is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Rixon works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Russell is controlling Rixon's position as best he can from this difficult position.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Rixon throws a right and a left that Russell avoids nicely.
Rixon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Russell circles away quickly and effectively.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Rixon scores with a takedown into Russell's guard.
Rixon takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Russell is pulling down on Rixon's head. It's preventing any offense from Rixon, at least for the moment.
Rixon trying to control but Russell is working from the bottom.
Russell wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Rixon looking to sit in guard and control but Russell gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Russell wants to stand and escape but instead Rixon has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Rixon has his foot on Russell's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Russell works his way back into a safe position though.

Tom Rixon comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rixon has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
