PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Antonio The Sparta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie Kilpatrick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kilpatrick is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Irish pub. Eddie Kilpatrick will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Antonio The Sparta!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Eddie Kilpatrick!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Dirk Anderson and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kilpatrick closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Kilpatrick decides to stand and escape the position.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A head punch on the inside from The Sparta fails to land.
The Sparta prevents a body shot from Kilpatrick.

Kilpatrick breaks from the clinch.
Antonio The Sparta seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kilpatrick circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kilpatrick is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Kilpatrick shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has The Sparta pinned against the cage. The Sparta gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kilpatrick told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Kilpatrick got a little sloppy there for a moment and The Sparta has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kilpatrick has managed to get both his arms back between The Sparta's legs - danger averted.

Kilpatrick blocks The Sparta's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
The Sparta is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.

The Sparta knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kilpatrick on the ground.
Kilpatrick takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The Sparta's coaches at Foot Loves have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Kilpatrick takes The Sparta's back, avoiding a couple of desperation strikes from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

What can The Sparta do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Kilpatrick looking to break The Sparta's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. The Sparta remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Kilpatrick will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Kilpatrick scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. The Sparta is looking for a way out.

I really don't envy The Sparta right now.

The Sparta is trying to defend against the choke here but Kilpatrick has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Kilpatrick Tightens the hold and The Sparta taps out furiously! Kilpatrick displays superior BJJ to win the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Eddie Kilpatrick!
Eddie Kilpatrick took some time post fight to say the following; 'Ha Fair play to him he put up a hellofa fight but you cant beat the irish spirit now lets all go to the pubs and get pissed'.
