Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ellsworth Patton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Domingo Chavez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ellsworth Patton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Domingo Chavez!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, John Roberts and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chavez moves in looking to clinch but Patton pushes him off.
Patton shoots for a takedown but Chavez saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Some wild striking there from Chavez.
Chavez misses with a double jab
and Patton counters with a slapping leg kick.

Patton gets tackled into the cage by Chavez. Chavez maintains the clinch.
Chavez looking to throw knees to the head but Patton is blocking nicely.

Chavez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Chavez goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Patton tries to close the distance and clinch but Chavez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Chavez throws a series of punches but Patton avoids them all with ease.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chavez throws a right hand that Patton ducks under and follows up with a left that Patton also avoids with ease.
Patton closes the distance and clinches up with Chavez, looking for a takedown. Patton pushes Chavez against the cage but Chavez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Chavez wants to clinch up but Patton keeps it at a distance.
Chavez misses with a jab, cross combination.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Chavez clinches up with Patton and pushes him back against the cage.
Chavez throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Patton blocks it with crossed arms.

Chavez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Chavez using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Patton has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Chavez lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

Chavez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Chavez throws a left and a right that both miss

and Patton moves into the clinch.

Patton gets control of Chavez's arms and successfully pulls guard. Patton will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Chavez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Patton is proving hard to escape from.
Chavez won't allow Patton to sweep him here.
Chavez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Chavez wants to stand and escape but instead Patton has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Patton prevents Chavez from getting back to his feet.
Patton is looking to work some ground and pound but Chavez has wrist control.
Chavez wants to stand but Patton is controlling the position.
Patton works over Chavez with some ground and pound from guard.
Patton keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Chavez's head.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Patton stands up and waves to Chavez to follow him.

Patton shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Patton showed some decent athleticism there.

Patton is looking for a kimura here.

Patton throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Patton throws an elbow that misses. Chavez uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Patton's guard. Nice move by Chavez!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chavez wants to stand and escape but instead Patton has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Domingo Chavez will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Patton avoids a punch combination nicely.

Patton closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ellsworth Patton overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Patton misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Chavez wants to get back to his feet but Patton drags him back down.
Patton with the ground and pound but Chavez regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Patton winds up and cracks Chavez with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Patton thows a huge punch but Chavez dodges it nicely.

Patton throws a strike but Chavez avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Chavez wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Patton manages to pass to side control.

Chavez tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Patton manages to move to mount!
Patton lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Chavez hang on?

Patton with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Chavez really wants to buck Patton off and get back to his feet.

Chavez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Patton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
