PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tom Huddlestone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergei Simenkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Sergei Simenkov was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tom Huddlestone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sergei Simenkov!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Reed Andrews and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Simenkov has Huddlestone up against the cage in a clinch.
Simenkov has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Huddlestone avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Huddlestone works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Huddlestone is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Demon's Elite Gym that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Huddlestone scoring with punches to the head and body.
Huddlestone really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Huddlestone stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Simenkov swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Simenkov looking for a sweep. Not yet Simenkov, not yet.
Simenkov manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Huddlestone manages to get himself to full guard.


Huddlestone has his foot on Simenkov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Simenkov works his way back into a safe position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Huddlestone throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Huddlestone is wriggling around but Simenkov manages to pass to half guard.
Huddlestone is looking for a sweep. Simenkov is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Simenkov is trying to control the action in half guard but Huddlestone is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Simenkov in particular looking to stall.
Simenkov is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Huddlestone tries to kick Simenkov off but Simenkov keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Simenkov thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Huddlestone's head.

Huddlestone has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Simenkov is on him like a limpet, forcing Huddlestone back against the cage.
Simenkov has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Huddlestone avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Simenkov manages to break the clinch.
Simenkov dives in and grabs Huddlestone's left leg, looking for a takedown. Huddlestone pushes down on Simenkov's head and hops out.
Tom Huddlestone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sergei Simenkov.
Simenkov tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Huddlestone swivels and escapes.
Simenkov shoots in looking for a takedown but Huddlestone manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Simenkov's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Simenkov drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Huddlestone looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Simenkov is posturing up here but Huddlestone has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Simenkov tries to roll out but it's too tight and Simenkov has to tap! Slick submission there by Huddlestone!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Tom Huddlestone!
Post fight, Tom Huddlestone took to the microphone: 'thank you god!'.
