PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steve Long (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nikolay Zarubaylo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Long comes to the cage accompanied by Hallowed Ground - WASP. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Steve Long!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nikolay Zarubaylo!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Ivan Kurochkin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A kick lands to the mid section there for Zarubaylo.

Long clinches up with Zarubaylo and pushes him back against the cage.
Zarubaylo drops down looking for an ankle pick but Long pulls his leg out and moves away.
Horrible takedown by Zarubaylo or perhaps it was just good defense by Long which made him look bad.
Zarubaylo is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Long feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Long wants to take Zarubaylo's back but he can't do it this time.

Long goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Zarubaylo turns into him and now he's in Long's guard.

Long looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Zarubaylo passes into half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Zarubaylo in particular looking to stall.

Long manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That was a close round but I would say that Steve Long will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Long fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Zarubaylo manages to avoid it.
Nikolay Zarubaylo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Zarubaylo takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Long is looking to wear down Zarubaylo with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Zarubaylo does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Long has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Long looking to secure an arm triangle but Zarubaylo defends it well.
Long pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.

Long has control of Zarubaylo's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Zarubaylo regains control of the situation pretty easily.
