PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jari Koivusalo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Jeter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Jonathan Paton and Chad Campbell.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jeter throws a right hand that Koivusalo ducks under and follows up with a left that Koivusalo also avoids with ease.
Jeter throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Koivusalo tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
The crowd cheers as Jeter lands an impressive looking overhand right. Koivusalo doesn't seem phased though.
Koivusalo shoots in but no luck this time.

Jeter feints and as Koivusalo raises his hands in defense, Jeter changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jeter tries to stand but Koivusalo is controlling from the bottom.
Koivusalo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jeter is one step ahead there.

Koivusalo seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Jeter gets to his feet. Koivusalo looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Jeter throws a shot from downtown. Koivusalo moves away and avoids it.
Jeter tries to clinch but Koivusalo moves away
and Koivusalo counters with a nice kick to the body.
Jeter cracks Koivusalo with a right hand to the side of the head.
A jab from Jeter does it's job there.
Jeter misses with a takedown
and Koivusalo counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Jeter is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Koivusalo has Jeter up against the cage in a clinch.
Jeter scores with a knee to the head.

Jeter decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Koivusalo, up you get!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Koivusalo seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Koivusalo is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Jeter!
Jeter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Koivusalo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jeter is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Koivusalo has taken his back!
Jeter is trying to get back to his feet but Koivusalo has full control of the position and if anything, Jeter has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Koivusalo is looking to finish with some ground and pound!

Koivusalo is really struggling to control Jeter but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That was a close round but I would say that Jari Koivusalo will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Jeter fails to land the takedown.

Koivusalo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jeter wants to get back to his feet.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Koivusalo creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Koivusalo is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Jeter is defending well though. Koivusalo let's go of the attempt for now.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jari Koivusalo just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Jeter manages to break the clinch.
Koivusalo fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Jeter manages to avoid it.

and Jeter counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

and Koivusalo counters with a single leg into guard. Jeter didn't expect that.

Jeter is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Koivusalo is controlling him.
Jeter is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Jeter is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Jeter misses with a knee strike.
Koivusalo is working for takedown but Jeter is calmly controlling the position for now.
Jeter is pressed up against the cage. Koivusalo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Jeter down to the mat. Jeter avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Jeter counters with a left and a right that stings Koivusalo.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jari Koivusalo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jeter lands a two punch combo.

Koivusalo tries to pull guard but Jeter holds him up against the cage and eventually Koivusalo drops back down to his feet.

Koivusalo looks for a takedown but Jeter sprawls well.
Jeter throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Koivusalo's head.

Jeter feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jeter tries to buck Koivusalo off so he can stand up but Koivusalo has got his back now - this could be big trouble! He's slapped on a rear naked choke that looks really tight! Jeter falls backwards, slamming Koivusalo to the mat but Koivusalo holds on tight! Jeter is forced to tap and this one is all over!
