PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Roberto Hogan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reggie Keyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Reggie Keyes will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Roberto Hogan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Reggie Keyes!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Keyes tries to keep at a distance but Hogan has taken the fight into the clinch.
Hogan really is a fat lump.
Keyes looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Hogan goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Hogan tries for a takedown but Keyes manages to get underhooks.
Hogan taking a breather.
Keyes throws a knee to the head but misses.

Keyes drops Hogan with a big knee straight up the middle! Hogan is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!


It looks like Roberto Hogan has been cut.
Keyes throws a head kick but Hogan moves out of range.

Hogan gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Hogan has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Keyes uses from the top position.

Hogan wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Keyes pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hogan is keeping the position for now.
Hogan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Keyes wants to control from the top but Hogan keeps moving.

Hogan looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Hogan looking for a sweep. Not yet Hogan, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hogan is working hard here to advance position.
Hogan wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hogan's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Keyes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hogan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Keyes has managed to get both his arms back between Hogan's legs - danger averted.

Hogan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Keyes manages to get himself to full guard.

Hogan decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Keyes closes the distance looking to clinch

and Hogan counters with a takedown into side control.

Hogan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hogan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hogan stands up.

Keyes throws a right hand that misses

and Hogan counters with a shoot takedown. Keyes fights it but they end up in guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hogan stands up from Keyes's guard - Hogan perhaps looking for a knockout.

Hogan gets a clinch.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hogan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Hogan's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Hogan is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Keyes's half guard.

Hogan is working for a kimura but Keyes is defending it quite comfortably.

Hogan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Keyes doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hogan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hogan is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Keyes is breathing heavily.

Hogan is working for a kimura but Keyes is defending it quite comfortably.
Hogan looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Keyes with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hogan is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Keyes to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.

Hogan stands up and waves to Keyes to follow him.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Hogan closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Keyes with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Keyes tries to land knees in the clinch but Hogan avoids the damage to the body.
Hogan drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Keyes gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Hogan wants to break the clinch but can't.
Keyes throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Hogan blocks it with crossed arms.
Hogan jumps guard but Keyes turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Hogan as Keyes tries to tie him up.

Hogan is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Keyes can't fight it off and eventually Hogan manages to take the fight to the floor. Keyes looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hogan stands up from Keyes's guard - Hogan perhaps looking for a knockout.

Hogan moves into the clinch successfully.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hogan has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Keyes regains guard immediately.

Hogan decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Keyes, up you get!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Hogan drives through and clinches with Keyes against the cage.
Keyes wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Hogan has him pressed against the cage.
Hogan with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Hogan breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Keyes changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hogan looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Hogan manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Hogan keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hogan makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Keyes takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Hogan clinches up against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Keyes gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hogan.
Hogan displaying some good clinch control by pressing Keyes up against the cage.
Hogan has Keyes pressed against the cage, preventing Keyes from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Hogan goes for a takedown in the clinch but Keyes prevents it.

Keyes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Keyes tries to clinch up
and Hogan counters with a one-two to the body.

Hogan looking to score a takedown here. Keyes is defending well but Hogan drives through and ends up in Keyes's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hogan gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Keyes tries to clinch there but Hogan circles away.

Hogan gets a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hogan is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Keyes pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roberto Hogan. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Keyes turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Keyes trying to control the position but Hogan is working away.

What's Hogan going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Hogan manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Hogan lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Hogan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Keyes is just riding it out for now. Hogan eventually gives up the hold.

Hogan is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

And that's the end of the fight!
Roberto Hogan showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Hogan has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
