PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Uriah Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Natan Fischer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Uriah Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Natan Fischer!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Bruno Lombardi and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz shoots in for a takedown but Fischer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
As Cruz backs off Fischer throws a huge counter combo but Cruz manages to avoid it all.
Fischer looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Fischer tries a head kick but it misses.
Cruz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fischer as he jumps to the side.
Cruz sets himself, and Fischer steps forward looking for the clinch! Cruz avoids it this time.
Cruz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Uriah Cruz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fischer lands a jab.

Cruz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fischer tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cruz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Cruz moves into full mount!

Fischer sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Cruz trying to control the action but Fischer is working from the bottom.
Fischer tries to roll over but Cruz keeps him under control.
Cruz is looking to take a break and control but Fischer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Fischer is trying to maintain the position but Cruz is very close to passing his half guard.
Cruz sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Fischer defending well though.
Cruz seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Cruz seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Cruz is looking to take a break and control but Fischer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Fischer slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Fischer keeping moving, preventing Cruz from controlling successfully.
Fischer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cruz is one step ahead there.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Cruz is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Cruz darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Cruz is looking for a kimura but Fischer is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cruz to get the leverage.
Fischer is trying to maintain the position but Cruz is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cruz wants to control but Fischer is keeping him busy.

Cruz winds up and cracks Fischer with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Cruz with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Fischer is defending against the submission attempts here by Cruz.
Cruz is nestled in close to Fischer, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Uriah Cruz dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Cruz darts in looking for a takedown but Fischer gets double underhooks and turns Cruz into the cage.
Cruz fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Fischer swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Fischer misses with a wild combination.

Cruz drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Cruz wants to control from the top but Fischer keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cruz has gone for a leg lock! Fischer slips out almost immediately though and dives into Cruz's guard.

Uriah Cruz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Fischer wants to pass the guard but Cruz is keeping the position.
Cruz is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Fischer makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Fischer must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Cruz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Fischer is aware though and is defending well.

Cruz pulls Fischer in close to his closed guard and prevents Fischer from doing any damage or advancing position.

Fischer looking to improve position, pressing down on Cruz's thigh with his hand. Cruz seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Fischer paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Fischer's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Cruz picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
