PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Doe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harley Kidd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Harley Kidd will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, John Doe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Harley Kidd!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Michael Johnstone and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kidd fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Doe could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Doe closes the distance and clinches up with Kidd, looking for a takedown. Doe pushes Kidd against the cage but Kidd circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Doe.
Doe misses with a takedown

and Kidd decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Doe's guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Doe. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Doe wants to improve his position but instead Kidd has moved into half guard.
Doe trying to control from the bottom.
Kidd lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kidd is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Doe has managed to free his arm - good work.
Kidd thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Doe's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kidd seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Doe does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Doe moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Doe is trying to keep Kidd in close.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Doe shoots in for a takedown but Kidd shows good takedown defense.
Kidd misses with a series of wild punches.
Doe fails with an attempt to clinch.
Kidd checks a leg kick.

Doe doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Kidd counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Doe wants to stand and escape but Kidd is having none of it.
Doe looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Kidd throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Doe thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Doe working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kidd.

Doe is trying to keep Kidd in close.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Doe throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kidd's waist but Kidd gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Doe off to one side.
Kidd blocks a head kick by Doe.

Kidd clinches up against the cage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Doe jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kidd walks away with a smile on his face. Doe gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Kidd swings widly with a right hand
and Doe counters with a left and a right that stings Kidd.
Doe displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kidd.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Harley Kidd dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Doe tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

and Kidd counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Kidd.
Doe fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Kidd stops a takedown attempt from Doe.

Kidd tightens his grip and picks Doe up, before dumping him to the ground. Doe manages to land in guard.

Doe pushes Kidd off and gets back to his feet.
Doe rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kidd moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Doe wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Kidd is now in half guard.
Kidd tries to pass to full mount but Doe defends it.

Doe wants to control but Kidd is keeping busy.
Kidd is trying to control the action in half guard but Doe is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Kidd working the head and body with strikes.
Kidd has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Kidd wants to lay and pray for a moment but Doe keeps working.
Kidd is nestled in close to Doe, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Harley Kidd showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Doe lands with a straight right. Kidd didn't see that one coming.
Kidd throws a right hand that Doe ducks under and follows up with a left that Doe also avoids with ease.
Doe shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Nice sprawl there from Kidd as Doe shoots in.
Doe tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kidd sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Doe somewhat.
Harley Kidd seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Doe staying out of range there.

Doe stopping the sweep attempt from Kidd.

Doe slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Doe postures up in Kidd's guard and throws a big left but Kidd blocks it.

The fight stays on the outside here - Doe looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Doe has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kidd is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Doe wants to hit a switch here but Kidd passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Doe there!

Harley Kidd is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Harley Kidd comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Kidd has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
