PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kirby Simon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rupert D Bear (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Kirby Simon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rupert D Bear!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Colin Fotheringham and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

D Bear instigates a clinch.
D Bear fails to pull guard.

D Bear drags the fight down to the ground.
D Bear tries to strike from the bottom.
Simon trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Simon loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Simon trying to stand up but can't free himself from D Bear's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now D Bear is on top in guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

D Bear got a little sloppy there for a moment and Simon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, D Bear has managed to get both his arms back between Simon's legs - danger averted.
D Bear stays in close to Simon's body and controls the position.
Simon is trying to control the position from the bottom.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Simon is trying to improve his position.

D Bear staying calm.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Simon sneaks back into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Simon wants to improve his position but D Bear is controlling well.

Simon is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but D Bear pulls his head out easily.
D Bear is pressing down on Simon's thigh, looking to free his foot. Simon is holding on for now.
Simon could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
D Bear lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
D Bear is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Simon wants to get back to full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

D Bear manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Simon on his heels. He'll look to pass Simon's guard now, I'm sure.

D Bear pushes down on Simon's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Well, if D Bear is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

D Bear seems to be looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rupert D Bear dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


D Bear shoots in looking for a takedown. Simon tries to sprawl out of it but D Bear keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Simon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
D Bear has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
D Bear dives in and grabs Simon's left leg, looking for a takedown. Simon pushes down on D Bear's head and hops out.

D Bear clinches up with Simon and pushes him back against the cage.
Simon wants to take the fight to the mat but D Bear manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Simon lands a takedown into guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if D Bear can do anything to dispel that myth.
Simon throws a strike but D Bear rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Simon has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. D Bear is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Simon.

Simon wants to get back to his feet but D Bear is dominant here and he's now got Simon's back!
Simon manages to reverse the position and now he's in D Bear's guard. Nice work there by Simon.
D Bear wants to sweep here but Simon controlling him for the moment.
D Bear has Simon pulled in close to control his posture.
Simon postures up in D Bear's guard and throws a big left but D Bear blocks it.

D Bear is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

D Bear is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Simon presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Simon is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Simon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from D Bear is defended easily by Simon.
Kirby Simon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rupert D Bear.

Simon tries to keep at a distance but D Bear has taken the fight into the clinch.
Simon is working for takedown but D Bear is calmly controlling the position for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

D Bear manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Simon with a flurry of punches that miss.
Simon postures up in D Bear's guard and throws a big left but D Bear blocks it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rupert D Bear showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

D Bear sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Let's hope that D Bear has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Simon working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. D Bear doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. D Bear manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Simon is working an open guard so D Bear takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

D Bear looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kirby Simon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rupert D Bear.

and Simon moves into the clinch.

D Bear pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Simon lands a jab-cross combination.

D Bear closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

D Bear decides to stand back up. D Bear steps back and let's Simon get back to his feet.

Simon gets caught flat footed, as D Bear shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

D Bear is trying to work for a kimura but Simon is defending well.
Simon makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Simon.
D Bear working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Simon's head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Simon looking to hit a scissor sweep but D Bear is one step ahead there.
Simon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rupert D Bear comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got D Bear winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
