Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Phillip Woodward (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Drew Tyrone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drew Tyrone has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Phillip Woodward!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Drew Tyrone!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tyrone lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Tyrone looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Tyrone dives in and scores a takedown into Woodward's guard.
Woodward tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Woodward thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Woodward wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Tyrone is now in half guard.

Tyrone is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Woodward is trying to get back to full guard.

Woodward regains full guard. Nicely done.
Woodward is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Woodward connects with a nice short shot to Tyrone's temple.
Woodward seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tyrone wants to control but Woodward is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Tyrone shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Woodward is pressing down on Tyrone's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Woodward chips away with some ground and pound.
Woodward has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Tyrone utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Woodward postures up in Tyrone's guard and throws a big left but Tyrone blocks it.
Woodward stands up over Tyrone, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

That was a close round but I would say that Phillip Woodward will probably get the nod.

Tyrone has clasped his hands together around Woodward's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Woodward shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tyrone as he avoids it easily.

Tyrone closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Woodward has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Tyrone avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Tyrone is trying to push Woodward away but Woodward has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Woodward has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Tyrone uses from the top position.
Woodward wants to sweep but no luck.
Tyrone is pushing down on Woodward's leg trying to pass to half guard. Woodward is fighting to maintain full guard but Tyrone has managed to sneak the leg through.
Tyrone wants to stand up but Woodward is controlling the position.
Woodward avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Tyrone.
Tyrone seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Woodward does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Tyrone decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Woodward, up you get!
Drew Tyrone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Woodward tries to close the distance and clinch up but Tyrone swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Woodward tries to land a front kick but Tyrone steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Woodward shoots in for a takedown but Tyrone shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Tyrone has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Drew Tyrone comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Tyrone has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Drew Tyrone decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
