PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Terry Owens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Borhan Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Owens's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Cold as Ice. Borhan Khan will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Terry Owens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Borhan Khan!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Sandra Marshall and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Owens keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Terry Owens seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Owens shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Khan counters with a body kick.
Owens is looking to clinch but Khan is avoiding it.
Khan shoots for a takedown but Owens saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Khan misses with a takedown

and Owens counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Terry Owens has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Borhan Khan.
Owens is breathing heavily.
Owens advances position into side control!
Khan tries to get back to half guard but can't.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Khan is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Owens has just dragged him back down to the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Khan can't do much from the bottom here.

Khan is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Owens is staying active.

Owens goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Khan rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Owens's guard! Nice work there by Khan!
Owens keeping moving, preventing Khan from controlling successfully.

Owens is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Khan is aware though and is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Owens utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Khan has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Owens is proving hard to escape from.
Owens keeping moving, preventing Khan from controlling successfully.
Khan slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Khan is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Khan wants to control from the top but Owens keeps moving.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Khan shoots in for a takedown but Owens shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Owens leaves Khan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Khan is trying hard to land a takedown here. Owens sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Owens changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Khan tries to avoid it but Owens manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Khan to the ground. Khan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Khan tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Owens defends well and Khan ends up having to push Owens into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Khan is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Owens is defending well for now.

Owens using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Khan has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Owens blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Owens is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Owens jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Khan walks away with a smile on his face. Owens gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Owens shoots in and drives through. Khan sprawls well.
Khan fails with a takedown attempt.
Khan shoots in for a takedown but Owens shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Owens shoots in for a double leg but Khan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Khan should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Khan fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Owens sprawls well initially but Khan persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Khan wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Borhan Khan will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Owens shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Owens shoots in and bounces Khan off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Our spies down at at Foot Loves inform us that Khan has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Khan has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Owens can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Owens wants to pass the guard but Khan is keeping the position.
Khan is trying to keep Owens in close.
Owens trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Khan manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Khan would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Owens looking to hit a scissor sweep but Khan is one step ahead there.
Khan trying to control the position from guard on top but Owens is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Khan wants to get up but he can't break Owens's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Owens had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Khan defends it easily.

Owens is trying to control Khan's posture but Khan avoids it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Khan tries for a kimura but Owens is defending well.
Khan is looking to take a break and control but Owens is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Khan is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Borhan Khan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Khan is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Owens doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Khan.

Khan is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Owens is not content to let Khan control the position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Khan in particular looking to stall.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Owens is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Terry Owens is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Khan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
