Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Maria Aguilar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andre Rua!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Seu Braga and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Aguilar moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Rua looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Rua leaves Aguilar with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Rua closes the distance and clinches.
Aguilar jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rua walks away with a smile on his face. Aguilar gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Rua misses with a two punch combination.
Rua will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Aguilar tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rua defends well and Aguilar ends up having to push Rua into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Maria Aguilar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Aguilar tries to pull guard but Rua forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Aguilar tries to land a knee to the head but Rua blocks with his arms.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rua has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Aguilar is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Aguilar avoiding damage as Rua throws knees to the body.
Aguilar tries to pull guard but Rua holds him up against the cage and eventually Aguilar drops back down to his feet.
Rua scores with a nice hook to the head.

Rua dodges an elbow strike from Aguilar.
Aguilar is trying to drag Rua to the mat but Rua just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Aguilar is trying to pull guard but Rua turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Aguilar tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rua breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Aguilar tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rua defends well and Aguilar ends up having to push Rua into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Rua is stalling here.
Aguilar fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Aguilar tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rua smiles and moves away.
Aguilar fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Rua.
Rua drops Aguilar with a beautiful combination! Aguilar stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Rua is looking for the KO!
Aguilar is rocked!
It looks like Maria Aguilar has been cut.
Rua closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Aguilar out cold! Aguilar corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Andre Rua!
