PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johnny General (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gaius Julius Caesar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Caesar comes into a darkened arena with his song building. How do you gauge Caesar? kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johnny General!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gaius Julius Caesar!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jonathan Paton and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Caesar keeps the fight on the outside.

General closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for General.
Caesar avoiding damage.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Caesar.

Caesar gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, General regains guard.
Caesar postures up.
General looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Caesar controls from within his opponent's guard.

Caesar tries to free his leg and advance position but General is retaining full guard.
Caesar is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
General is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Caesar's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Caesar feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

General won't allow Caesar to sweep him here.

General stands and steps away. Caesar gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

A momentary lapse in concentration from General enables Caesar to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. General manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Caesar is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
General pulls Caesar in close to prevent any damage.

General has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Caesar can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Caesar engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Caesar wants to stand but General has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Caesar not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Let's hope that Caesar has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Caesar won't allow General to sweep him here.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Caesar moves into the clinch.

Caesar jumps guard.
Caesar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
General wants to stand but Caesar is controlling his posture from full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as General accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Caesar wants to improve his position but instead General has moved into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Caesar shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in General's guard.
Caesar wants to control from the top but General keeps moving.
Caesar postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Caesar is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Caesar must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

General throws his legs up looking for a submission but Caesar uses it to pass to side control.
You can see the frustration on General's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Caesar has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Caesar misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Caesar stands up and beckons General to his feet.
Caesar bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
General tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Caesar paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Caesar shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Caesar content to control rather than advance.

General regains full guard. Nicely done.
General keeping moving, preventing Caesar from controlling successfully.
Caesar controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Caesar postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
General looking for a sweep. Not yet General, not yet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Johnny General is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
General tries to clinch but Caesar is having none of it.

General tries to sprawl but Caesar drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Caesar in particular looking to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Caesar looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
General has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Caesar is working away from the top position though.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

General with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

It looks like Gaius Julius Caesar has been cut.

Caesar lands a takedown into guard.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Caesar.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Caesar gets in close and instigates a clinch.
General has a couple of punches blocked by Caesar.
General misses with a short punch on the inside.
General misses with a knee strike.
General crunches a lovely knee into Caesar's ribcage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Caesar creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Caesar wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

General tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Caesar smiles and moves away.
General fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johnny General. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Caesar shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. General manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Caesar is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

General is looking for a triangle here but Caesar uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Caesar remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
General avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Caesar.
Caesar controls the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Caesar swats away the attempt to clinch by General.

Well Caesar has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
