PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Randy Dragon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Wolff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dragon kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Whiskey in the Jar. Randy Dragon has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Randy Dragon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Wolff!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, John Roberts and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dragon takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
A slow jab from Dragon misses its intended target.
Dragon throws a leg kick that misses.
Wolff steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Dragon.
Wolff keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Wolff lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Wolff takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Wolff moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Dragon tests Wolff's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Wolff shoots in for a double leg but Dragon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Dragon definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Dragon throws a right and a left that Wolff avoids nicely.
Dragon throws a series of punches but Wolff avoids them all with ease.

Dragon shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Dragon sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Wolff defending well though.

Wolff wants to improve his position but Dragon is controlling well.

Dragon is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Wolff is just riding it out for now. Dragon eventually gives up the hold.

Dragon throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Dragon is thwarting Wolff's attempts to control the position.

Dragon stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Wolff avoids a punch combination nicely.

Wolff gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Dragon to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wolff bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dragon's guard.

Dragon will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Wolff wants to control from the top but Dragon keeps moving.

Dragon throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Wolff passes Dragon's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Dragon moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Wolff trying to control the position from guard on top but Dragon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dragon tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Dragon is looking to stand up but Wolff isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Randy Dragon dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Wolff shoots in looking for a takedown but Dragon manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wolff's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Dragon fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Wolff looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Dragon drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Wolff's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Wolff is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wolff parries the strikes from Dragon easily there. Dragon is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Wolff to escape.

Dragon stands up and beckons Wolff to his feet.

Randy Dragon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Dragon tests Wolff's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Dragon is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Wolff can do to turn this around?
Wolff has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Dragon misses with a jab, cross combination.
No luck for Wolff with that takedown attempt.
Dragon rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Wolff moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Dragon lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Wolff circles away quickly and effectively.
Wolff tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Dragon throws a half hearted mid kick.
A combination from Dragon does no damage.
Nice takedown defense from Dragon. No joy for Wolff on that attempt.
Randy Dragon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Wolff.

Wolff shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dragon as he avoids it easily.
Dragon feints a jab promting Wolff to slip. Dragon then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Wolff slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Dragon misses with a jab, cross combination.
Wolff tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dragon swivels and escapes.
Dragon is looking for a counter combo.
Randy Dragon is winning the standup battle so far.

Dragon moves into the clinch.

Dragon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dragon misses with a double jab

and Wolff counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Wolff wants to get up but he can't break Dragon's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Wolff passes into half guard.

Dragon is defending against the submission attempts here by Wolff.

Wolff is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Dragon has managed to free his arm - good work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Dragon wants to get back to full guard.

Wolff is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Wolff is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Dragon to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Wolff throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Dragon manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wolff manages to get himself to full guard.

Wolff is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!



Dragon fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Wolff to the ground. Dragon is now in Wolff's guard.
Wolff is controlling Dragon's posture.

Wolff working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Dragon doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Dragon manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Dragon postures up in Wolff's guard and throws a big left but Wolff blocks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wolff has his foot on Dragon's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dragon works his way back into a safe position though.
Randy Dragon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wolff takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Dragon throws a big elbow that misses.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dragon accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Dragon would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Dragon thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Dragon wants to stand but Wolff has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dragon misses with a wild combination.
Wolff has a takedown stuffed.

Wolff shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dragon is trying to defend but Wolff finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Wolff wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dragon keeps working.

Wolff is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Wolff wants to free his trapped foot but Dragon is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Dragon has a hand on Wolff's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Wolff takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Dragon somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
No luck for Wolff with that takedown attempt.
Dragon is looking for a counter combo.
A punch combination from Dragon misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dragon throws a series of punches but Wolff moves out of range.
Wolff changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Wolff avoids a punch combination nicely.
Dragon throws a combination that misses

and Wolff counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Dragon wants to stand but Wolff is controlling the position.
Dragon keeping full guard, as Wolff tries to pass.
Wolff is pushing down on Dragon's leg trying to pass to half guard. Dragon is fighting to maintain full guard but Wolff has managed to sneak the leg through.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dragon moves into full guard.

Wolff drops back looking for a leg! Dragon is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Dragon manages to kick Wolff off! Wolff jumps back into Dragon's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Randy Dragon.
Well Dragon has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
