PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Delbert Ellis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maxim Tr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Delbert Ellis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Maxim Tr!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Roosa Järviläinen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ellis scores with a jab to the jaw.

Tr darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Tr decides to stand and escape the position.

Tr takes the fight into the clinch.
Ellis tries to score a body lock takedown but Tr shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
The referee is keeping an eye on Ellis - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tr trying to land knees to the body.
Tr stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tr tries to circle away but Ellis has him pinned against the cage.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Ellis as Tr tries to tie him up.
Ellis has had enough of the clinch but Tr keeps him there for the moment.

Tr manages to pull guard.
Ellis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Ellis prevents Tr from getting back to his feet.
Tr tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ellis throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Tr avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Tr utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Ellis trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Tr working a defensive guard but Ellis manages to pass into side control anyway.
Ellis is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Ellis lands a nice forearm strike.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ellis tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ellis has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Tr wants to control but Ellis postures up.
Tr gets back to half guard.
Tr tries to roll over but Ellis keeps him under control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tr keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Tr closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ellis did well to prevent Tr getting side control.
Tr is taking a breather. Ellis says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Tr is looking to advance position but Ellis won't allow it.
Tr throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ellis has one foot on Tr's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Ellis throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Tr tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Ellis is in Tr's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Maxim Tr will probably get the nod.
That's time! Ellis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Ellis tries to keep at a distance but Tr has taken the fight into the clinch.

Tr ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Tr no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Tr is looking for a triangle but Ellis pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tr is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ellis is controlling him.
Ellis throwing strikes but missing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ellis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Tr works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Tr utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Ellis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Ellis not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Tr rushes Ellis and presses him up against the cage.
Ellis will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Tr up against the cage.
Ellis wants to break free but Tr has control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ellis is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Ellis is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Tr keeps control of Ellis as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Ellis tries to break the clinch but Tr is controlling the position.

Ellis manages to break the clinch.

Tr throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Ellis tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Tr is in Ellis's guard.
Tr chips away with some ground and pound.
Ellis is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Tr in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Maxim Tr has got the better of the ground game so far.
Tr postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tr postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Ellis controls Tr momentarily but Tr frees himself.
Tr trying to control but Ellis is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Tr feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ellis is trying to keep Tr in close.
Ellis has a closed guard, preventing Tr from standing up.
Ellis keeping moving, preventing Tr from controlling successfully.

Ellis is adopting a defensive guard.

Tr decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Ellis throws a head kick that misses.
Ellis fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tr avoids it really well and circles away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Tr feints and as Ellis raises his hands in defense, Tr changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maxim Tr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Ellis is adopting a defensive guard.
Tr wants to control from the top but Ellis keeps moving.
Tr is fighting to break Ellis's control of his arms but Ellis is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ellis is trying to keep Tr in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ellis wants to sweep but no luck.
Tr wants to stand but Ellis has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Ellis tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Ellis tries to sprawl but Tr drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Tr uses his free foot to push down on Ellis's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Ellis.
Tr wants to control the pace but Ellis is squirming around nicely.
Ellis doing his best to control the position. Can he escape?
Tr with shots to the head and body - Ellis looks very uncomfortable down there.

Ellis is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Tr fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Tr raining down hammerfists from mount.
Tr working the ground and pound effectively.
Ellis wants to control but Tr is having none of it.
Tr trying to control but he's not successful this time.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tr tries to push Ellis's head away but Ellis is holding on tight.
Tr content just to control the position here.

Tr lands a big shot there that rocks Ellis but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Ellis is squirming around, avoiding Tr's attempts to control the action.
Tr with a couple of short strikes.
Ellis tries to hold on but Tr pushes him away.
Tr wants to control the pace but Ellis is squirming around nicely.
Tr controlling from mount.
Tr tries to control but Ellis wriggling away.

Tr scoring with strikes but Ellis is staying in there.
Ellis wants to hold on but Tr pushes him away.
Ellis is looking to improve his position but Tr isn't that keen on the idea.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ellis tries to hold on but Tr postures up.
Delbert Ellis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Maxim Tr is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Tr controlling the pace for now.
