PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jack Gates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Top Cats - Red Light Spells Danger. Jack Gates had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Gates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jay Walker!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Anthony Taglia and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gates's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Walker connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Gates scrambles back to his feet.
Walker lands an overhand right.
Walker throws the left hand but Gates avoids the punch easily.

Gates drives through with a takedown into Walker's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Walker had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gates defends it easily.
Gates keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Walker's head.
Walker is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Gates wants to control from the top but Walker keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Walker is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Gates has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Gates working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Walker is looking for a triangle but Gates pushes his legs off easily.

Walker is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've been hearing that Gates has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Walker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Walker is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gates defends well.
Gates wants to control from the top but Walker keeps moving.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Walker working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gates doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gates manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Walker looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Walker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gates can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Walker is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gates is aware though and is defending well.
Gates content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Gates wants to pass the guard but Walker is keeping the position.
Gates wants to control from the top but Walker keeps moving.

Walker is looking for a triangle but Gates pushes his legs off easily.
Gates throws an elbow that misses. Walker uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Gates's guard. Nice move by Walker!

Gates wants to get back to his feet but Walker is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Walker is working for a kimura but Gates is defending it quite comfortably.

Gates shoots for a takedown but Walker saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Walker moves into range and connects with a jab.
Gates steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Walker.
Gates on the wrong end of a nice jab.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Gates.
No luck for Gates with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Gates. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Gates misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Walker missing with a left hand there. Gates was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Walker darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Walker clobbers Gates with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Walker is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gates.
Gates slips under a jab from Walker.
A slow jab from Walker misses its intended target.
Walker misses with a wild combination.
Walker might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Walker bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Jay Walker seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Gates shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Walker as he jumps to the side.
Gates looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Gates takes one to the chin there.
Walker lands a jab to the nose.
Walker lands a glancing blow to the side of Gates's head.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gates closes the distance and clinches up with Walker, looking for a takedown. Gates pushes Walker against the cage but Walker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Gates tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Walker defends well and Gates ends up having to push Walker into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Walker's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Gates shoots in but Walker avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Walker throws a hook to the side of Gates's head but Gates sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Walker missing with a left hand there. Gates was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Walker connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gates shoots in for a double leg but Walker sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Gates steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Walker.
Gates shoots in and drives through. Walker sprawls well.
Walker throws a series of punches but Gates moves out of range.
Gates looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Gates shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Walker connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Walker feints a jab promting Gates to slip. Walker then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Gates slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Gates avoids a punch combination nicely.

Gates shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Gates showed some decent athleticism there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Walker gets back to full guard.

Walker escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gates gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Gates wants to control from the top but Walker keeps moving.

Walker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Walker looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Walker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Gates's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Walker throws a body shot but no joy.
Gates takes a jab right on the kisser.
Gates tries for a takedown but Walker sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Horrible takedown attempt by Gates or perhaps it was just good defense by Walker, which made it look bad.
Gates fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Walker avoids it really well and circles away.

Walker throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Walker throws a shot from downtown. Gates moves away and avoids it.

Walker gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gates to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Walker has his foot on Gates's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gates works his way back into a safe position though.

Walker is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Gates has his hands clasped together but Walker extends and breaks Gates's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Walker.
