Wrend thows a left - swing and a miss!
Wrend fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Wrend misses with a lunging right hand
and Ryu makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Wrend waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Ryu.

and Ryu cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
A clash of legs there as Ryu blocks the low kick.

Wrend clinches with his opponent.
Wrend keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Ryu's efforts to push away.
Ryu wants to take the fight to the mat but Wrend manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wrend has picked Ryu up - he's going for a ride! Wrend dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Wrend has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Wrend looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ryu with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wrend has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Wrend has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Wrend seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ryu for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
