PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Grover Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rusev Hungary (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Grover Lewis has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Grover Lewis seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Grover Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rusev Hungary!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shirou Masuda and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hungary rushes Lewis and presses him up against the cage.
Hungary throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Lewis has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Lewis has had enough of the clinch but Hungary keeps him there for the moment.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lewis is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Hungary takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Lewis pushes off an throws an elbow but Hungary leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Hungary tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Lewis avoids it.
Lewis has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Lewis wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Hungary has him pressed against the cage.
Lewis tries to break free but Hungary pushes him back against the cage.
Hungary throws an elbow that misses.
Hungary tries to circle away but Lewis has him pinned against the cage.
Lewis keeps control of Hungary as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Lewis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hungary lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Hungary fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lewis sprawls well initially but Hungary persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Hungary is looking for a kimura here.
Lewis trying to control here.
Hungary is keen to just control but Lewis is a slippery customer.
Lewis tries to roll over but Hungary keeps him under control.
Lewis wants to control but Hungary is keeping busy.
Hungary is looking to take a break and control but Lewis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Lewis regains full guard. Nicely done.
Lewis looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Hungary trying to control the position from guard on top but Lewis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Lewis gets caught napping as Hungary dives in and scores a takedown. Lewis manages to retain guard.
Lewis pulls Hungary in close to his closed guard and prevents Hungary from doing any damage or advancing position.

Lewis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hungary stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lewis swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Hungary thuds a left hand into Lewis's body.

Hungary scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Lewis wants to control but Hungary is keeping busy.
Hungary wants to take a breather but Lewis is having none of it.
Hungary is thwarting Lewis's attempts to control the position.

Lewis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hungary's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hungary's back!

Hungary manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.
Lewis tries to close the distance and clinch but Hungary swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Lewis drives through with a takedown into Hungary's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Hungary lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Hungary drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lewis looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lewis looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lewis!

Hungary isn't going anywhere.
Lewis is trying to ground and pound but Hungary uses the momentary lack of control by Lewis to regain half guard.

Lewis is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Hungary has managed to free his arm - good work.

Lewis is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Hungary keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Hungary looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Lewis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hungary is just riding it out for now. Lewis eventually gives up the hold.
Hungary moves into full guard.
Lewis has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lewis postures up in Hungary's guard and throws a big left but Hungary blocks it.
Hungary wants to stand and escape but Lewis is having none of it.

Hungary preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Hungary manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Lewis trying to control the position but instead, Hungary has worked for underhooks and has pushed Lewis into the cage.
Hungary throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lewis is trying to force a seperation but Hungary has the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rusev Hungary showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Hungary scores with a one two! Lewis had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Hungary drives through with a takedown into Lewis's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Hungary decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Lewis, up you get!

Hungary lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Hungary stands up and beckons Lewis to join him on the feet.

Lewis has a hand on Hungary's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Hungary takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Hungary has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rusev Hungary comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hungary has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
