Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daren Woods!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Davis Sloan!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Russell Pearce and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sloan looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Woods!
Woods gets back to half guard.
Woods is looking for a sweep. Sloan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Woods moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Woods throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Sloan slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Woods.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Woods is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sloan winds up and cracks Woods with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Woods has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Woods is looking for a sweep. Sloan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Woods is trying to escape back to his feet but Sloan uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Woods manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Sloan wants to get back to full guard.

Woods is looking for a kimura but Sloan is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Woods to get the leverage.
Sloan is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Woods scores with a couple of nice shots.

Woods is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sloan sees it coming and defends easily.
Woods is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The fighters are battling for position here. Sloan manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Sloan has a closed guard, preventing Woods from standing up.

Woods gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Sloan has his takedown stuffed

and Woods counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Woods.
Sloan tries to break the clinch but Woods is controlling the position.
With the fighters up against the cage, Sloan throws an elbow but misses.
Woods struggles to land a body shot inside as Sloan controls his hands.
Sloan managing to block the knees to the body from Woods.
Sloan is pressed up against the cage. Woods has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sloan down to the mat. Sloan avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Woods walks forward, straight into a front kick from Sloan.
Davis Sloan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sloan lands with an uppercut that bounces Woods off the cage and back into range.

Sloan cracks the inside of Woods's front leg.
Woods misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Woods is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Sloan's half guard.
Sloan tries to get to full guard but Woods has control of the leg.

Woods wants to work for an arm triangle but Sloan is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Woods slows the pace down in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Daren Woods will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Sloan throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Woods manages to pass to side control.
Sloan is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Woods is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Woods stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Sloan shoots in for a double leg but Woods sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Sloan changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Sloan tries to close the distance and clinch but Woods swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Woods tries a head kick but it misses.
Sloan misses with a takedown attempt

and Woods counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Sloan is breathing heavily.

Woods drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Woods jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Woods thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Woods stands up and waves to Sloan to follow him.
Woods avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Woods misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sloan tries for a takedown but Woods circles away easily
and Woods counters with a left to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daren Woods dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

and Woods counters by clinching up.
Sloan avoids a wild elbow strike from Woods.
Sloan blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Woods tries for a takedown. No joy.
Sloan prevents the takedown attempt.
Sloan has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

and Woods counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Woods closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Woods lands in his opponent's guard.
Sloan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Sloan takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Woods gets to mount! Sloan was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
Woods fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Woods is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Sloan has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Sloan!
Woods controls Sloan momentarily but Sloan frees himself.
Woods is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sloan can do to turn this around?

Daren Woods overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Woods looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sloan is one step ahead there.
Sloan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Woods wants to get back to his feet but Sloan is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Woods lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Woods's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well Woods has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
