PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gilbert Melendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nathan Redmond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Redmond looks to land a combination but Melendez avoids it well.
Melendez tries to clinch up but Redmond circles away and keeps his distance.

Redmond feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Redmond is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Melendez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Redmond wants the takedown. Melendez is fighting it off but Redmond persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Melendez's guard against the cage.

Redmond drops back looking for a leg! Melendez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Melendez manages to kick Redmond off! Redmond jumps back into Melendez's guard.

Redmond looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Melendez with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Melendez is looking to get back to is feet but Redmond passes into side control.

Redmond is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Melendez knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Redmond lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Melendez down.

It looks like Gilbert Melendez has been cut.

and Redmond counters with a slapping leg kick.

Redmond landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Redmond misses with a knee to the head.

Redmond escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The fight stays on the outside here - Melendez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Redmond closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Redmond is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Melendez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Redmond on the ground.

Redmond working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Melendez has hold of Redmond's hands but Redmond slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Redmond lands a big elbow - Melendez is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Redmond!
