PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lennon McGee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Esko Maki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lennon McGee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Esko Maki!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Seu Braga and Mauricio Rocha.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maki moves into the clinch.
Maki misses with some punches.
Maki misses with a hook to the ribs.

McGee breaks the clinch.
McGee shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Maki but Maki pushes him off and we're back to square one.
McGee shoots for a double leg takedown but Maki sprawls well. He's pushed McGee's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
McGee throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Maki's waist but Maki gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McGee off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lennon McGee. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Maki misses the body punch

and McGee holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

McGee ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. McGee no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Maki controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Maki has eaten all the pies!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Maki working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
McGee knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Maki on the ground.
Maki stands and throws McGee's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Maki works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
McGee is letting Maki control him for a moment.
Let's hope that Maki has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Maki gets to mount! McGee was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
McGee is in a horrible position here. Maki smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Maki working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. McGee turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Maki off and cradles McGee's limp body as Maki celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Esko Maki!
