PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dillen Aspen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Hanks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dillen Aspen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Steve Hanks!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Peter Branson and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hanks tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Aspen defends well and Hanks ends up having to push Aspen into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Hanks prevents a takedown attempt there.
Aspen is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Hanks to keep the fight standing.

Hanks breaks the clinch.
Hanks fails with an attempt to clinch.
Aspen throws a lazy right hand but Hanks sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A head kick misses from Hanks.
Aspen bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Hanks's head backwards.


It looks like Steve Hanks has been cut.

Aspen gets tackled into the cage by Hanks. Hanks maintains the clinch.
Aspen fails to pull the fight into his guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dillen Aspen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hanks is working for takedown but Aspen is calmly controlling the position for now.
Hanks has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Aspen avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Hanks breaks the clinch.
Aspen scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Aspen lands a left and a right that send Hanks crashing to the mat, dazed. Aspen thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hanks tries to score a power double leg takedown but Aspen sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hanks somewhat.
Aspen misses with an uppercut.
Aspen rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hanks moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Aspen slaps away a takedown attempt from Hanks, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Hanks pushes Aspen up against the cage in a clinch.
Aspen can't get the takedown.
Hanks drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Aspen gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Hanks misses with a hook to the ribs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Aspen is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Hanks to keep the fight standing.
Hanks gets underhooks to prevent Aspen's takedown attempt.
Hanks can't find room to land a body shot as Aspen controls the action.

Hanks gets control of Aspen's arms and successfully pulls guard. Hanks will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Hanks manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Hanks throws a sloppy head kick and Aspen moves out of range easily.
Aspen will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hanks darts in looking for a takedown but Aspen gets double underhooks and turns Hanks into the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hanks gets control of Aspen's arms and successfully pulls guard. Hanks will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Aspen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Hanks is controlling Aspen's posture.
Aspen would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Hanks striking off his back but it's not causing Aspen any problems.
Hanks looking for a sweep. Not yet Hanks, not yet.
Hanks trying to control the position here.
Hanks wants to sweep but no luck.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Hanks wriggles free and stands up.
A punch combination from Aspen misses.
Aspen looks to land a combination. Hanks sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Hanks has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Aspen finds it's way round the side to connect with Hanks's head.


That has opened up Steve Hanks's cut even more.
Aspen jabs Hanks to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Hanks shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Aspen pinned against the cage. Aspen gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Hanks looks winded!
Aspen digs a good hook to Hanks's body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dillen Aspen dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Steve Hanks's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Aspen lands with a cross.
Hanks takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Aspen lunges at Hanks with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Hanks's hand.


Hanks is rocked!
Hanks misses with a jab, cross combination.
Hanks is still on wobbly legs! Can Aspen finish him?
Nice shot lands for Aspen.
Hanks is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Aspen stuffs the takedown.
Aspen lands with a big left! Hanks is wobbled badly! Aspen comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Hanks to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Dillen Aspen!
