PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Candid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Eichstaedt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Eichstaedt is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Klaxons- Gravity Rainbow. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johnny Candid!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Robert Eichstaedt!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Candid tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Eichstaedt paws at him with a jab and circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Candid looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Eichstaedt throws a nice inside leg kick.
Eichstaedt scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Candid is looking to slow Eichstaedt down with leg kicks.
Eichstaedt keeps the fight on the outside.
Candid shoots in but Eichstaedt avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Eichstaedt misses with a wild body shot.

Candid moves into range and clinches up with Eichstaedt.

Eichstaedt breaks the clinch.
Eichstaedt avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Eichstaedt swats away the attempt to clinch by Candid.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Eichstaedt decides to stand and escape the position.
Candid fails with the takedown

and Eichstaedt counters with a takedown into side control.

Eichstaedt stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Eichstaedt throws a right and a left that Candid avoids nicely.

Eichstaedt closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Eichstaedt remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Eichstaedt's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Eichstaedt looks up at the clock and then as Candid takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Eichstaedt smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Eichstaedt is staying tight to Candid's torso, preventing him from escaping.

Eichstaedt tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Eichstaedt has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Candid shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Eichstaedt counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Eichstaedt throws a one two combo.
Eichstaedt lands a nice looking kick to the body. Candid takes a step back to recover.
Candid tries to clinch but Eichstaedt moves away
and Eichstaedt counters with a one-two to the body.
Eichstaedt connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Nice takedown defense from Candid. No joy for Eichstaedt on that attempt.
Eichstaedt tries for a takedown but Candid sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

You get the feeling that Candid really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Candid is trying to escape the mount but Eichstaedt keeps good control and instead manages to take Candid's back.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Eichstaedt has good solid back control here.

Eichstaedt is landing with strikes from the back.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Eichstaedt controlling the position well here. Candid rolled but Eichstaedt kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Candid knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Eichstaedt on the ground.

Despite being in the dominant position, Robert Eichstaedt just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Eichstaedt lands with a kick to the ribs.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Robert Eichstaedt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Candid avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Eichstaedt drops down looking for an ankle pick but Candid pulls his leg out and moves away.

Eichstaedt wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Eichstaedt jumps guard but Candid stands there with Eichstaedt around his waist. Eichstaedt gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Eichstaedt changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Candid looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Candid is pressed up against the cage. Eichstaedt has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Candid down to the mat. Candid avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Candid moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Robert Eichstaedt comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Eichstaedt has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
