PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cyprien Noe Cyr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny Blaze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cyr comes into the arena with Frog Song blaring out of the sound system. Blaze has chosen Big Pun - Glamor Life as his entrance music. Cyprien Noe Cyr could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Johnny Blaze's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Cyprien Noe Cyr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Blaze!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cyr on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.


It looks like Cyprien Noe Cyr has been cut.
Cyr on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Blaze moves into the clinch successfully.
Cyr has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Cyr ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Cyr no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Cyr manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Blaze manages to get himself to full guard.

Blaze escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cyr gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cyr wants to control from the top but Blaze keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cyr is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Blaze has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Cyr is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Blaze.
Blaze tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cyr wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Blaze can't do much from the bottom here.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Cyr is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Blaze is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Blaze pushes Cyr away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Cyr gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Blaze wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

Blaze might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Cyr haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Blaze is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Cyr is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Blaze is looking for a sweep. Cyr is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Blaze has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cyr is working away from the top position though.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Cyr looks to score with a jab to the body but Blaze is just out of range.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Blaze throws a jab but it's blocked by Cyr.

Blaze closes the distance and pushes Cyr back into the cage.
Blaze fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Cyr goes for a takedown attempt but Blaze pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
A nice leg kick lands there from Cyr.
Cyr moves out of range as Blaze strikes.
Cyr takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Blaze throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Blaze looks to score with a jab to the body but Cyr is just out of range.
Cyr takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Blaze moves into range and clinches up with Cyr.
Blaze is looking to break free of the clinch but Cyr has double underhooks.
Blaze content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Cyr is trying to pull guard but Blaze turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Cyr digs a right hand into Blaze's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Blaze's gas tank.

Blaze goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Cyr lands a nice knee to the body.

Cyr throws a head punch that misses.

Cyr gets control of Blaze's arms and successfully pulls guard. Cyr will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

and Blaze counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Cyr thinking.
Cyr takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Blaze is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Blaze is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cyr.

Blaze tries to break free but Cyr pushes him back against the cage.
Blaze is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Cyr is keeping busy.
Cyr lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Cyr tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Blaze avoids it.
Blaze scores with a shot to the side of Cyr's head.
Cyr drops down looking for an ankle pick but Blaze pulls his leg out and moves away.

That's time! Cyr's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Cyr avoids the body shot from Blaze.
Blaze sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Cyr lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Cyr pivots, looking for a leg kick but Blaze is out of range and Cyr settles back down.
Cyr takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Cyr is trying to get an arm triangle but Blaze is defending well.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
Blaze is trying to get back to half guard.
Blaze is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Cyr has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Blaze felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Cyr is looking to take a break and control but Blaze is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Cyr is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Blaze has escaped the position, nice work there.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cyr closes the distance and clinches up with Blaze, looking for a takedown. Cyr pushes Blaze against the cage but Blaze circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Cyr shoots in looking for a takedown but Blaze manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cyr's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Blaze closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Cyr throws a push kick but Blaze slaps the foot to one side.
It seemed like Blaze was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Blaze steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Cyr.

Blaze darts in and clinches Cyr up against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Blaze wants to get back to striking at distance but Cyr won't allow it.
Blaze lands on the inside with an uppercut.


Cyprien Noe Cyr's cut is getting worse.
Cyr tries to work over Blaze's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Cyr softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Cyr is working for takedown but Blaze is calmly controlling the position for now.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cyprien Noe Cyr showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Cyr has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
