PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joey Rodinerio Bravo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Irwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Bravo might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Damian Marley - Confrontation. Irwin has chosen AC/DC - T.N.T as his entrance music. Paul Irwin acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Joey Rodinerio Bravo !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Paul Irwin!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bravo gets a clinch.
Irwin tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Bravo blocks an uppercut.
A head punch on the inside from Irwin fails to land.
Bravo has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Irwin avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Bravo looking for a takedown.

Bravo has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Irwin clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Irwin is trying to stand back up.
Bravo wants to control but Irwin is keeping busy.
Irwin wants to get back to his feet.

Bravo looking for the choke from the back.

Bravo working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Irwin is trying to shake Bravo off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Bravo won't be happy about giving up the dominant position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Irwin throws out a loose jab but Bravo uses good head movement to avoid it.

Bravo on the wrong end of a nice hook.
A chopping leg kick lands by Irwin.
Irwin jabs Bravo to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Bravo feints and as Irwin raises his hands in defense, Bravo changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Irwin wants to stand up but Bravo is controlling him.
Bravo trying to control but Irwin is working from the bottom.
Irwin wants to get back to his feet but Bravo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Irwin can't keep his opponent in guard - Bravo advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bravo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Irwin defends it well.

Bravo seems to be working for a kimura but Irwin defends the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Irwin is refusing to be controlled, as Bravo sits in half guard.
Irwin is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bravo seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Irwin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Bravo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Irwin's waist but Irwin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bravo off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joey Rodinerio Bravo . That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bravo shoots for a takedown but Irwin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Paul Irwin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Bravo moves away from the strike by Irwin.
Bravo slips under a jab from Irwin.
Bravo tries for a takedown but Irwin circles away easily
and Irwin counters with a stiff right hand.

Bravo gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Irwin looking to throw knees to the head but Bravo is blocking nicely.
A short right from Irwin on the inside.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Irwin.
Irwin scores with a shot to the side of Bravo 's head.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Bravo .
A short left from Irwin.
Bravo jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Irwin walks away with a smile on his face. Bravo gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Bravo shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Irwin is looking to escape.

Bravo is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Irwin has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Irwin is trying to stand.
Bravo tries to pass the half guard into mount. Irwin knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Bravo is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Irwin is not content to let Bravo control the position.
Irwin wants to get back to his feet.

Irwin pushes Bravo off and gets back to his feet.
Bravo ducks under a wild hook from Irwin.
Irwin misses with a jab, cross combination.
A big right from Irwin misses.
Bravo moves away from the strike by Irwin.
Bravo attempts a counter takedown but Irwin avoids it well and moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Paul Irwin will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Bravo takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Irwin throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Bravo counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Bravo tries to pass to full mount but Irwin defends it.
Bravo is keen to just control but Irwin is a slippery customer.
Bravo passes to full mount!
Irwin squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bravo with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

Bravo has control of Irwin's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Irwin regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Bravo fails to advance to Irwin's back.

Irwin tries to buck Bravo off but he can't manage it.
Irwin is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Bravo mounts Irwin! Really nice guard pass there!
Bravo fails to take his opponent's back.
Irwin's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Irwin bucks Bravo off and manages to get back to his feet!
The fighters circle momentarily. Irwin darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Irwin lands a jab-cross combination.
Irwin throws a low kick but it's checked well by Bravo .

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bravo gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Bravo blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Bravo tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Bravo is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Bravo drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A short uppercut from Irwin.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Irwin is pressed up against the cage. Bravo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Irwin down to the mat. Irwin avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Irwin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bravo .
Irwin scores with the left hand. Bravo knows he should have avoided that one.

Bravo has taken the fight to the clinch.
Bravo blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Paul Irwin seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.
Bravo wants a takedown but no success here.
Bravo doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Irwin scores with a shoulder strike.
Irwin swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Still in the clinch, Irwin scores with a nice short uppercut.

Irwin breaks the clinch.
Paul Irwin seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Bravo bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Irwin listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Irwin looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Bravo closes the distance and clinches up with Irwin, looking for a takedown. Bravo pushes Irwin against the cage but Irwin circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Bravo has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Irwin finds it's way round the side to connect with Bravo 's head.
Irwin throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Bravo shoots for a takedown but Irwin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Bravo gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.


Bravo is rocked!
Irwin throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Bravo 's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Irwin dives in looking to finish as Bravo flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Irwin's strikes! Irwin is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Bravo 's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Bravo was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paul Irwin!
Paul Irwin decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
The defeated Joey Rodinerio Bravo had this to say: 'I'm sure he applied WD-40 to his body, so i couldn't get a hold of him!'.
