PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gaius Julius Caesar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Connor Pappas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Caesar comes into the arena with How do you gauge Caesar? blaring out of the sound system. Connor Pappas is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gaius Julius Caesar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Connor Pappas!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Alyssa Summers and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Caesar has closed the distance and engaged Pappas in a clinch.

Caesar jumps guard.
Pappas passes into half guard.
Pappas is just content to waste time from the top position. Caesar takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Caesar preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Pappas won't allow Caesar to sweep him here.
Pappas lands a couple of elbows.
Caesar manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pappas manages to get himself to full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've been hearing that Caesar has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Caesar won't allow Pappas to get back to his feet.
Caesar postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pappas can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Caesar controls the pace.
Caesar has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Pappas wants a takedown but no success here.

Pappas wants the takedown. Caesar is fighting it off but Pappas persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Caesar's guard against the cage.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Caesar is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Caesar lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Pappas uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Caesar throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Pappas tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Caesar is in Pappas's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pappas wants to stand up but Caesar is controlling him.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Caesar has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Caesar.

Caesar is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pappas can do to turn this around?
Pappas shoots in for a double leg but Caesar sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Caesar slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pappas can do anything to dispel that myth.

Caesar closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Pappas's guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Caesar lands a heavy shot. That's hurt Pappas! Caesar sees the opportunity and turns up the heat - strike after strike land to the defenseless Pappas and the ref dives in to save him! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Gaius Julius Caesar!
