PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Am (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ren Hitogoroshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hitogoroshi comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Crooked by Bassbin Twins kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sam Am!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ren Hitogoroshi!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Bruno Hogan and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Am decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Hitogoroshi wants to get back to his feet.
Hitogoroshi felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Am passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Hitogoroshi!
We've been hearing good reports from Am's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Hitogoroshi is trying to escape the mount.
Am with the ground and pound from mount.
Am is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hitogoroshi can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Hitogoroshi is in all sorts of trouble here.
Am connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Am is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Hitogoroshi has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Hitogoroshi!

Am looking to control.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Am is on top in guard.

Am pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hitogoroshi is keeping the position for now.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Am's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Am working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Am is working Hitogoroshi over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Hitogoroshi is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Am throws a big elbow that misses.
Am has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Am is pushing down on Hitogoroshi's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hitogoroshi is fighting to maintain full guard but Am has managed to sneak the leg through.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Am working over Hitogoroshi with some ground and pound. Hitogoroshi looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Am not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Am landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Am throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Hitogoroshi to regain full guard.
Am won't allow Hitogoroshi to sweep him here.
Am trying to control the position from guard on top but Hitogoroshi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Am's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Am throwing strikes but missing.
Hitogoroshi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Am. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Am landing with the ground and pound.
Hitogoroshi wants to improve his position but instead Am has moved into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hitogoroshi is staying active underneath Am, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Am throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Am trying to control the pace.
Am lands with a punch from half guard.
Am is nestled in close to Hitogoroshi, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Hitogoroshi is trying to stand up here but Am is controlling him well.
Hitogoroshi is looking to improve his position.
Hitogoroshi wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Am lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Am seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Hitogoroshi looks like he's trying to stand up.
Am looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hitogoroshi with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Am drops an elbow to the side of Hitogoroshi's head.
Am lands with a punch from half guard.
Hitogoroshi is trying to stand up here but Am is controlling him well.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Am lands a nice short elbow.
Am with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Hitogoroshi tries to get to full guard but Am has control of the leg.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Am dominated that round.
That's time! Am's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Am shoots in and drives through. Hitogoroshi sprawls well.
Am just misses with a punch to the body.
Hitogoroshi lands a nice shot to the body.
Am doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Hitogoroshi counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Hitogoroshi scores with a hook to the body. Am takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Am takes one to the side of the head.


It looks like Sam Am has been cut.
Am tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Am is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hitogoroshi can do to turn this around?
Am misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hitogoroshi.
Hitogoroshi throws a nice looking combination but Am bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Am misses with a telegraphed body shot

and Hitogoroshi counters with a crisp right hand that drops Am! Hitogoroshi lets Am back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


Am is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hitogoroshi thuds a left hand into Am's body.
Oh Am is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hitogoroshi is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Am flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Am is out cold! Hitogoroshi holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ren Hitogoroshi!
During a confident post fight interview, Ren Hitogoroshi thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
