Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Zivojin Miric!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Fertus!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miric misses with a wild combination.
No joy there for Miric, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Fertus cracks a nice hook into Miric's ribs.
Miric doesn't manage to clinch there - Fertus circles away.
Miric just misses with a punch to the body.
Miric pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Miric lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Miric lands with a shot to the body.
Miric has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Jef Li's MMA(13 coaches, 49 cap) in the buildup to the fight.
Miric throws a right and a left that Fertus avoids nicely.
Fertus on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Miric throws a looping overhand right but Fertus ducks down to avoid it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Miric misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Fertus counters with a head kick.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Miric fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Miric throws a half hearted mid kick.
Miric throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A little jabbing left from Fertus on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Miric tries to land a front kick but Fertus steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Fertus looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Fertus throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Miric is looking to counter punch.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Miric, as that shot connected.
Miric walks into a straight right hand from Fertus.
Miric swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
A head kick misses from Miric.
Miric throws a lazy head kick
and Fertus counters with a lovely straight right hand!
A head kick by Miric misses
and Fertus moves into the clinch.
Fertus's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
A nice inside leg kick there by Fertus. That's going to slow Miric down.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Miric misses with an uppercut
and Fertus counters with a one-two to the body.
Fertus moves out of range as Miric throws a body kick.
Miric tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Fertus throws out a counter right but Miric avoids it with no problem.
A decent looking cross lands there for Fertus.
Fertus displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Miric.
Fertus moves out of range of the strikes.
Fertus flicks out a counter leg kick but Miric steps away.
Miric throws a head kick but Fertus moves out of range.
Miric connects with the punch.
Miric throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Fertus makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Miric throws a head kick that Fertus semi-blocks.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Miric does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Miric takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Miric will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Fertus lands a big right hand and follows it up with an uppercut. Oh and another big punch and a knee - Miric can't take much more of this! Another big shot to the jaw from Fertus and Miric drops to the floor. Beaten and bloodied - he had enough there. A vicious beatdown by Fertus.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Fertus!
Mike Fertus was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
